Description
Class Experience
This ongoing class about the Presidents of the United States will encompass all 46 members of this exclusive club in chronological order. The course begins with George Washington and concludes with Joseph Biden. Not only will the term(s) as President be covered, but also the life of each President before and after serving, their family, interests, hobbies, education, military service and more. We will address "myths" about some of the founding fathers and influential leaders, discovering...
Students will be introduced to one President each class during which they will learn about who they were before taking office, their family, education, political and occupational journey, and interesting little know facts too. Students will explore the accomplishments, challenges and failures of each President, and examine how all 45 Presidents contribute to the narrative of US history.
I am a licensed middle school Social Studies teacher who knows how to present the bad and ugly using age appropriate language and information.
No homework is assigned, but students will be provided with resources in the event that they would like to learn more about each President.
1 file available upon enrollmentStudents may find paper and writing instruments helpful, but they are not required. A KWL graphic organizer is provided to help students identify what they already know, what they want to know and what they have learned.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
informal assessment using discussion questions and interactive activities.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Some of the US Presidents were assassinated, had attempted assassinations, were involved in activities that were investigated and/or considered illegal, or involved in inappropriate relationships that are integral to the lens through which we view their term(s) in office. Learners should be mature enough to absorb the "bad and ugly" about the Presidents presented in an age appropriate manner.
We will refer to the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, resources at the Smithsonian Institute and National Archives, PBS Kids, resource publications and additional learning tools as deemed necessary.
