Class Experience

In this 8 week course students will learn several popular and classic Disney songs. We will use Faber's Disney PreTime Piano Primer Level book. Your student will LOVE learning and playing these familiar tunes. This book MUST be purchased before class begins.
I suggest that this class follow my "#3 Let's Make Music" class. Learners for this class need to know at least the basics of reading music, finger numbers, and have some experience playing with both hands.

This class will cover several new theory terms such as flats, sharps, staccato, accents, and repeat signs.

The songs taught in this course will provide excellent practice of basic rhythms, and will teach different hand positions and the pieces will challenge your student to stretch themselves and learn harder musical pieces.

Students will learn at their own pace through this class, so the more they practice throughout the week the more we can cover during lessons. Students who start at the beginning of this course will start at the beginning of the book.
This class will meet via live video once per week. I ask students to participate in playing parts on their piano or keyboard during class, as well as to answer verbal quiz type questions throughout class. No typing is required at all for this class.
I ask that my students commit to practicing each song given AT LEAST 3 times each day. The more students practice, the more they will gain from this course.

I suggest that students have a parent nearby to help move the camera when it is necessary for me to check hand placement on the keyboard/piano.

Students MUST know their right hand from their left.

My plan is for students to learn one song and it’s particular theory topics per week. So the class would look like this.
Week One - “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King”
Week Two- “It’s A Small World”
Week Three - “Superfragilisticexpialidocious”
Week Three - “Winnie the Pooh”
Week Four - “The Siamese Cat Song”
Week Five - “I See The Light”
Week Six - “Do You Want To Build A Snowman”
Week Seven - “Scales and Arpeggios”
Week Eight - “Step In Time”

I plan to cover all the songs in this book over the 8 week course - however, the class will move at the pace of the student. The amount of time a student practices throughout the week will ultimately be the deciding factor in how quickly they move through the book.

*please be on time as I lock the class at 10 mins after start time as per Outschool policy.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Hannah and I'm so happy you stopped by my profile! I am currently a homeschooling mom, and have been a music teacher for half my life (16 years - you do the math;).

Music has the ability to strengthen the connection beween the body and the brain to help them work together as a team, which is why I incorporate music into a lot of my classes.
The more pathways a student uses for learning something new, the more pathways they have for retrieval of the information. Because of this, I utilize multisensory techniques.

My teaching style is "I tell you, you tell me, you show me".
As per one of my favorite quotes - "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."

I offer piano lessons for beginners and intermediate learners. My classes are thorough and time efficient, but I also work at the students pace to be sure they are grasping the concepts as we move along.
