Class Experience

Welcome to my 4 day summer camp on "Planet Science"

4 consecutive days spending: one day exploring the Solar System, including the Giant Outer Planets and Mercury; another day exploring Mars and then Venus & the Moon. On the final day we look for life under the ice of the Moons of Jupiter and explore Saturns's Moons Titan and Enceladus. We will look at the Earth Science of each of the planets and compare them to the Earth in order to learn more about our own planet and its future and past.

I teach using a lecture style with multi-media powerpoint slides with opportunities for questions. We will cover the following subjects:

1) EARTH SCIENCE OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM
2) EARTH SCIENCE of THE MOON & VENUS
3) EARTH SCIENCE of MARS
4) EARTH SCIENCE of OTHER MOONS

Please contact me if you have any other questions.

Other Details

Learning Needs
Structured lecture classes, so participation optional, relieves anxiety Mixed media slides appeal to different learning styles Engaging topics keeps attention Slides can be seen before class
Parental Guidance
Some classes talks about Global Warming and Climate Change causing more frequent natural disasters. It also talks about mass extinctions including the possibility of humans causing one now (including ourselves) and has some drawn images of animals dying to become fossils. We also talk about the end of the Earth and the Universe. It is delivered in a upbeat manner with positive solutions (eg: switching to renewable energy), but the more sensative students may find these topics distressing.
Pre-Requisites
No previous experience required but please note this is not a basic class, so younger students may find it more challenging unless they are already very keen on this subject.
