This camp meets for 30 minutes a day for four days. It is great for students who have some knowledge of the 8 parts of speech. In this session we will be studying passages from Grimm's Fairy Tales Day 1: The Frog Prince Day 2: Hansel and Gretel Day 3: Cinderella Day 4: Rumplestiltskin Each week's passage is unique and will be the basis for what grammar is learned. One of the best ways to learn grammar is to study the examples from well written literature. Together our class will read a short passage ....then the hunt begins! We will use a Google document and the annotation tools on Zoom to mark the chosen literature passage. If students would like a hard copy they may also print the passage via a pdf that I will share in the classroom. Pdfs are sent the day before class begins. With each passage we will: -discuss any unfamiliar vocabulary. -look at tricky spellings. -discuss other mechanics of writing: contractions, capitalization, homonyms, homophones, antonyms, similes, sentence types, dialogue, punctuation and more! -examine the passage and look for the 8 basic parts of speech, learning about them as we go. -learn about the parts of the sentence and locate them. -learn about phrases and clauses and look for them. Knowing the grammar of our language helps us to become better speakers. Studying grammar in well written literature helps us to improve our own writing.
