Does your learner like to solve fun mysteries? Well, let them put on their detective hat and get to work using their upper elementary math skills! Mini Math Mysteries are a fun 'game-like' activity to practice different math skills. They follow a simple elimination structure where learners will be using the answers to the math questions to eliminate possibilities. This is an ongoing class, so you are free to join in and leave as you please. At the beginning of each class, learners will hear a short story to preface the mystery they will be solving for the day. Then, it is time for our math detectives to get to work! Learners will answer a variety of questions based on different math content (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, place value, rounding, telling time, missing addends, etc.) to solve the mystery. They will first solve the math questions, and then they will look for their answers in the boxes and eliminate the boxes with a matching answer on our shared screen. After answering all questions, only one image will remain (that image will contain a number that didn't match any of the answers to the questions) and that box is the solution to our mystery! Some of the math concepts we will be working on include: -Addition within 1,000 (Regrouping Required) + Word Problems -Subtraction within 1,000 (Regrouping Required) + Word Problems -Comparing Numbers (up to 1,000) -Multiplying by 2s and 10s -Converting from Expanded Form (Hundreds, Tens & Ones) -Writing the Value of the Underlined Digit (Hundreds, Tens & Ones) -Multiplying by 5s -Dividing by 2 -Multiplication Facts (2s, 3s, and 4s) -Multiplication Facts (5s, 6s, and 7s) -Multiplication Facts (8s, 9s, and 10s) -Rounding to the Nearest Ten -Multiplication Facts (11s and 12s) -Read & Write Time (15 Minute Intervals) -Missing Addends to Make 100 -Mix of Multiplication Facts (2-12) -Adding Three Addends (Single, Double, and Triple-Digit Numbers) -Read & Write time (5 Minute Intervals) -Multiplication Facts (0-12) -Area Measurement: Counting Unit Squares -Division Facts (1-12) -Read & Interpret A Line Graph -Addition within 1,000 (Questions and Word Problems) -Subtraction within 1,000 (Questions and Word Problems) -Place Value Hundreds, Tens & Ones (Expanded Form, Value of underlined digit) -Rounding to the nearest 10 or 100 -Multiplication & Division Facts (1-12) Mix Week of August 5: Case of the Beach Burger Blunder (Multiplication & Division) Week of August 12: Case of the Backpack Bandit (Comparing Numbers) Week of August 19: Case of the Cafeteria Chaos (Word Problems) Week of August 26: Case of the Crayon Criminal (Subtraction with Regrouping) Week of September 2: Case of the Kidnapped Principal (Addition with Regrouping) Week of September 9: Case of the Book Burglar (Telling Time) Week of September 16: Case of the Tricky Teacher (Number Patterns) Week of September 23: Case of the School Hallway Hoax (Rounding Numbers to Nearest 10 or 100) Week of September 30: Case of the Falling Apples (Multiplication as Equal Groups) Week of October 7: Case of the Haunted House (Adding and Subtracting Within 1,000) Week of October 14: Case of the Smelly Spells (Interpreting Graphs) Week of October 21: Case of the Monster Mix Up (Place Value- Base Ten Blocks) Week of October 28: Case of the Halloween Heist (Perimeter of Shapes) Week of November 4: Case of the Kidnapped Turkey (Multiply by 3s and 4s) Week of November 11: Case of the Gobbler's Curse (Rounding Numbers to Nearest 10) Week of November 18: Case of the Thanksgiving Thief (Multiply by 9s and 11s) Week of November 25: Case of the Missing Turkey (Mixed Multiplication Facts 1-5, 9-11) Week of December 2: Case of the Selfish Elf (Fractions and Telling Time) Week of December 9: Case of the Christmas Chaos (Multiply by 6s, 7s, and 8s) Week of December 16: Case of the Zombie Elves (Multiplication Facts) Week of December 23: NO CLASS!!! Hello, my name is Kristi. I am a married fur-mom to two dogs, Olaf and Olivia. I enjoy reading, being outdoors, learning new things, and going on adventures with my husband!
I have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. I also have a MBA concentrating in Accounting. Math is a big passion of mine! I am a certified PreK-5 teacher in the state of Georgia. I also hold current Gifted and Talented, Special Education, and TESOL education certifications. I have been teaching in some capacity for 11 years with experience in all elementary grade levels, from pre-K to 5th grade! I taught at a private preschool for 1 year and the rest of my teaching years have been in a public school setting or online. In May of 2019, I began a new endeavor, teaching ESL online to students in China. I absolutely love teaching online and meeting students all the way across the world! As a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to make learning fun, help and encourage students to be successful in learning, and fostering a love for learning at an early age. In my classroom, you will see plenty of activities for varying learning styles, lots of movement and interactive activities, and learning through play.
I am passionate about teaching young children, and I look forward to meeting your learner(s) and helping them develop their young minds! I can't wait to meet you in the classroom!
