3RD Grade Math Practice
Class experience
In this ongoing class students will review 3rd grade math concepts based on the common core standards. Students will then practice solving problems and doing calculations using various methods. It is not required for students to attend every week but can drop in as needed to practice various skills. Students should already be familiar with these concepts. This is a class to review and/or gain further understanding of math concepts they have already learned. Students will begin each class with...
The goal of this class is to give students a solid understanding of the fundamental standards they are expected to learn during the 5th grade year. These concepts are important building blocks to future math success. The specific goal for each class is as follows: Week 1: Place Value and Rounding - Week 2: Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers Week 3: Multiplication of Whole Numbers (repeated addition, numberline, array, visual) Week 4: Multiplication of Whole Numbers (drills, estimating products, word problems, Multiples of 10) Week 5: Properties of Multiplication (associative, commutative, distributive - division) Week 6: Division of Whole Numbers (division relative to multiplication, missing facts, word problems, basic fact drills) Week 7: Understanding Fractions Fractions on a Number Line Week 8: Equivalent Fractions Week 9: Comparing Fractions Week 10: Express Whole Numbers as Fractions Week 11: Measuring Time Week 12: Measuring with Standard Units Week 13: Measure to the nearest fourth of an inch Week 14: Measure and find the Area of a Shape Week 15: Quadrilaterals
I have taught math in a traditional classroom for more than 15 years.
Please bring a dry erase board and marker to class if possible.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will post optional Youtube videos to watch prior to class in order to review the concepts. Youtube does require a google account to watch videos. This is an optional part of the class and it will be no problem to continue with the course if you choose not to watch the videos. Nearpod does not require an account. However, Nearpod is not required to complete the class. I will provide a link at the beginning of class. The students will follow the link and type in a name so I can identify them as they do the work (full name is not required.) This allows me to see the students' work as they complete it. I will also screen-share the Nearpod lesson, so it is not required that a student use Nearpod at all if that is preferred. They can complete the work on paper or a dry erase board and show the camera. Either option works well for the class. IXL does not require an account. It is used to practice weekly concepts.
