US Grade 2 - 5
This ongoing class that meets once a week is a great fit for students who are wanting to gain more knowledge and understanding and strengthen their foundational math skills of but not limited to addition and subtraction with regrouping, multiplication, and division, navigating word problems, and learning awesome strategies to help them "attack" all these foundational skills necessary to be successful in third grade and moving into fourth. I present the material in a way that meets all learning styles by verbally discussing the material, often times watching a quick video, and note taking. I feel note taking is a vital life skill and is necessary for the upcoming stages in a person's life. I teach by using a method which allows me to teach the information, as a class we practice, and the student applies what they have learned. This allows me to properly analyze if the student has truly learned the new information. I will post one optional assignment (can post more at request) each week to practice the skill they have learned. I can provide feedback for the assignment as well. The topics are as follows: Week 1 January 1st Recap from 1st semester- Rounding, Estimating, Expanded Form, Addition, Subtraction Week 2 January 8th Recap from 1st semester- Word Problems (Using money, addition, subtraction, multiplication) Part 1 Week 3 January 15th Word Problems (Using money, addition, subtraction, multiplication) Part 2 Week 4 January 22nd Interpreting graphs Part 1 Week 5 January 29th Interpreting graphs Part 2 Week 6 February 5th Creating graphs (pictographs, bar graphs, Venn diagrams) Part 1 Week 7 February 12th Creating graphs (pictographs, bar graphs, Venn diagrams) Part 2 Week 8 February 19th Multiplication and Division Strategies Week 9 February 26th Introduction to Division and practicing strategies Week 10 March 4th Division and Multiplication Word Problems Week 11 March 11th Skill Review/Recap Week 12 March 18th Subtracting Across Zeros and Fraction Review Week 13 March 25th Fractions on a number linew Week 14 April 1st Time and Terminology Review Week 15 April 8th Elapsed time Week 16 April 15th Elapsed time word problems Week 17 April 22nd Perimeter and Area Week 18 April 29th Perimeter and Area Word Problems
