US Grade 3
Thank you for your interest in this course! I am so happy you are here. :) My name is Jennifer Boham, and I am a licensed teacher, and was a brick and mortar teacher for 10 years before joining Outschool. In this ongoing class students will be met with a patient, kind, warm and seasoned math teacher, 2 times per week for 45 minutes each class meeting. Class meetings will be for instruction and support. The complete 3rd grade Common Core Math standards will be covered. Class will be interactive, and students will be encouraged to participate during class. (PLEASE make sure students have a personal whiteboard each day.) Students will be provided weekly assignments and there will be a quiz after the completion of each unit to evaluate student mastery and provide feedback on areas for continued focus. My teaching style is activation through a real-world problem or a hands on activity. I also utilize the gradual release method, (I do, we do, you do). In my years of teaching experience, I have found that students are all unique, and each class is unique. I adapt the classroom and instruction to the needs of the students. This helps them feel confident because they are successful in math class and it also helps meet the learning goal. My goal in each class is to make learning fun and engaging. I love teaching, and after 10 years in a brick and mortar setting, I am thrilled to be an Outschool teacher, and love the flexibility it offers to my students and the classroom design. PLEASE NOTE: Students are welcome to join the course at ANY TIME! :) Here's what students are learning in this course: Core Topics: Properties of Multiplication and Division Place Value and Problem Solving with Measurement Telling Time Rounding Whole Numbers 3 digit Addition with Regrouping 3 digit Subtraction with Regrouping Multiplication and Area Fractions and the Number Line Collecting Data and Graphs Geometry Measurement Word Problems Please note: *The timeline for the above topics is flexible and subject to change based on students' needs. To find out more about what we are currently working on, please feel free to contact me. This course is designed as an ongoing course and students are encouraged to join at any time, with the understanding that students should have been receiving instruction on 3rd grade topics up to this point and families are comfortable with supporting students with assignments as needed to help fill in any gaps. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and to come up with a plan if there are any concerns. I hope to see your learner in class soon. :) Mrs. Boham

Parental Guidance
During this class we will be using the following platforms, Nearpod, Kahoot and Gimkit, to interact with math topics and fellow students.
Students do NOT need an account to participate. Students will be provided with an access code to be entered into the website, by navigating to join.nearpod.com, kahoot.it or Gimkit.com/join.
Students will be provided guidance during class, but it is recommended that you either:
a.) have a second device available, or
b.) or are able to split your screen and have two internet windows side by side - one window with Zoom, and one window with the 2nd math platform (Kahoot, Nearpod, or Gimkit).
Please view this video if you need to split your screen: https://youtu.be/XBXeQ7w_ILs
Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. :)
Supply List
PLEASE ensure your child has a personal dry erase whiteboard each day for our class meetings! I do constant checks and need to visually see the steps students are taking to problem solve and provide guidance. With a whiteboard, students can hold up their work and I can give immediate feedback. **Students will also need sharpened pencils, notebook or looseleaf paper. **Second device to play Kahoot game on (tablet, iPad, phone) * A second device is not required but encouraged. If your learner does not have a second device, please be sure to watch the video tutorial on how to split your screen *before* class begins so that your learner will be prepared for class and can participate in the Kahoot game. https://youtu.be/XBXeQ7w_ILs **Homework may be in the format of paper or digital. Please be prepared to print homework or writing answers on notebook paper works fine as well.
