3rd Grade Full Year-Reading Curriculum

Ongoing 3rd grade full year reading curriculum that will meet live once a week. Learners will have a fun and exciting time while diving deep into the third grade reading standards. This is a perfect fit for homeschool curriculum.

Beginner - Advanced Level
🌟Learners who are ready for or need a review of third grade reading curriculum standards will benefit from this class. This is an ongoing class that will meet live once per week. 

🌟The standards covered align with homeschool curriculum as well as public school curriculum.  Both reading literature and informational texts will be included. Each class will be engaging and include instruction, guided practice, interactive activities      and games through a Nearpod lesson.  

🌟You are welcome to join the class any week. Each class is independent and does not build on the previous week. Homework will be optional. 

🌟This is an inclusive class, and all learners are welcome. Each student will be treated with kindness and respect. I can’t wait to see your learner in the classroom!

Week 1: September 5th - Demonstrate understanding of text 
Week 2: September 12th - Finding the main idea
Week 3: September 19th - Retell fables through key details 
Week 4: September 26th - Retell folktales through key details 
Week 5: October 3rd - Retell myths through key details  
Week 6: October 10th - Describe character’s traits, motivations and feelings  
Week 7: October 17th - Describe how character’s actions contribute to events  
Week 8: October 24th - Distinguish literal and non-literal language  
Week 9:  October 31st - Using stories-describe how each successive part builds  
Week 10: November 7th - Using dramas-describe how each successive part builds  
Week 11: November 14th - Using poetry-describe how each successive part builds 
No class the week of November 20th 
Week 12: November 28th - Distinguish point of view from the narrator  
Week 13: December 5th - Explain how text illustrations convey mood and setting 
Week 14: December 12th - Compare and contrast theme, setting and plot 
No class the week of December 18th and the week of December 25th 
Week 15: January 2nd - Ask and answer questions 
Week 16: January 9th - Determine main idea 
Week 17: January 16th - Determine key details 
Week 18: January 23rd - Determine how key details support the main idea 
Week 19: January 30th- Determine use of language in sequencing scientific steps
Week 20: February 6th - Determine use of language in cause/effect pertaining to scientific ideas 
Week 21: February 13th - Identify text features in aiding comprehension  
Week 22: February 20th - Use text features to determine key events  
Week 23: February 27th- Distinguish point of view from author 
Week 24: March 5th - Determine connection between sentences using compare/contrast 
Week 25: March 12th - Determine connection between sentences using cause and effect 
Week 26: March 19th - Determine connection between sentences using sequencing 
Week 27: March 26th - Compare and contrast key points in two different texts 
Week 28: April 2nd - Reading Literature-Review main idea
Week 29: April 9th- Reading Literature-Review main idea and key details  
Week 30: April 16th - Reading Literature-Preview 4th grade standards
Week 31: April 23rd - Informational Text-Review main idea  
Week 32: April 30th - Informational text- Review main idea and key details  
Week 33: May 7th - Informational Text- Preview 4th grade standards 
Week 34: May 14th - Informational Text-Preview 4th grade standards
Week 35: May 21st - Reading Literature/Informational Text Preview 4th grade standards

Other Details

Parental Guidance
The lesson will be through the Nearpod format. A link will be given before class as well as in the chat in the beginning of class. Younger students might need help toggling between Zoom and the Nearpod.

I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade for 17 years in private, public and online schools. I am certified in Elementary Education K-6, Special Education and Reading K-12. ELA (English Language Arts) was one of my favorite times of the day where learners got to jump in and discover a world of reading fun!
