2-4 hours per week. Each week there will be a list of assignments, games, and projects for each subject along with integrated projects that will cover more than one subject. These assignments will typically require 30-60 minutes of the learner's time per subject per day, leading to a total of around 2-4 hours a day outside of class time depending on how fast or slow the learner works.Assessment
Learners are assessed through the grading of the week-long projects and are given a score between 0-100% using the rubric provided for each project.Grading
Grades will be given for all graded projects and compiled into a progress report in December and a final report card in May to shower master in Reading, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.Class Experience
US Grade 3
*New learners are welcome at any point in the year! This is a full year of 3rd-grade curriculum taught by a Georgia-certified teacher. We will cover 3rd-grade standards in math, reading, writing, grammar, phonics, science, and social studies. This class meets for 50 minutes every Monday-Thursday, covering one subject live each day. Along with live class meetings, week-long projects, games, and assignments will be given for each subject to continue the learning. If ever a learner misses a live class, a recording of the class will be sent to them. For math and reading, we typically cover one unit per week, with built-in reviews throughout the year to retain what we have learned. For writing/grammar/phonics, we cover one grammar or phonics skill a week and then work on a long writing over several weeks. For science and social studies, we go back and forth between science and social studies units. Our social studies lessons also highlight key historical figures as a means to teach about certain events. Each week, your learner will have a choice of projects to complete for a grade. They will choose one project to complete that will integrate subjects from the week and receive a grade between 0-100%. These projects are as simple as writing a report to constructing an experiment and have options for every type of learner so your child can learn and master in their own way. Our weekly schedule is as follows: Monday: Math Tuesday: Reading Wednesday: Writing/Grammar/Phonics Thursday: Science or Social Studies We use the Common Core Standards for math and ELA, the Next Generation Science Standards for science, and the Georgia Department of Education standards for social studies along with a few historical figures throughout the year. --- The following is the schedule for the 2024-2025 school year: Week of Aug. 26 Monday - Building and comparing 3-digit numbers in base ten Tuesday - Good reading habits and using context clues Wednesday - How to fix run-on and fragment sentences, How to Decode Words Thursday - Force (3-PS2-1) Week of Sept. 2 Monday - Rounding to the nearest 10s and 100s (3.NBT.A.1) Tuesday - Refer to text in literary texts (RL.3.1) Wednesday - How to form paragraphs, Word Families (L.3.2.F) Thursday - Future Motion (3-PS2-2) Week of Sept. 9 Monday - Adding 3-digit numbers (3.NBT.A.2) Tuesday - Recount Stories (RL.3.2) Wednesday - Writing personal narratives (W.3.3), Multisyllable Words (RF.3.3.C) Thursday - John Muir Week of Sept. 16 Monday - Subtracting 3-digit numbers (3.NBT.A.2) Tuesday - Determine the central message and key details in literary texts (RL.3.2) Wednesday - Writing personal narratives (W.3.3), Hard and soft C and G (L.3.2.G) Thursday - Electric and Magnetic Interactions (3-PS2-3) --- Week of Sept. 23 FALL BREAK --- Week of Sept. 30 Monday - Adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers in word problems (3.NBT.A.2) Tuesday - Character traits and feelings (RL.3.3) Wednesday - Writing personal narratives (W.3.3), Punctuating dialogue (L.3.2.C) Thursday - Magnets (3-PS2-4) Week of Oct. 7 Monday - Multiplying 1-digit numbers (3.OA.A.1) Tuesday - Character motivations (RL.3.3) Wednesday - Writing personal narratives (W.3.3), Beginning digraphs (L.3.2.G) Thursday - Branches of Government (SS3.CG1) Week of Oct. 14 Monday - Dividing by 1-digit numbers (3.OA.A.2) Tuesday - Use text to support answers in informational texts (RI3.1) Wednesday - Writing personal narratives (W.3.3), Ending digraphs (L.3.2.G) Thursday - Citizenship (SS3CG2) Week of Oct. 21 Monday - Properties of multiplication (3.OA.B.5) Tuesday - Determine main idea and key details (RI.3.2) Wednesday - Writing informational pieces (W.3.2), R-controlled sounds (L.3.2.G) Thursday - Life Cycles (3-LS1-1) Week of Oct. 28 - Spooky Spirit Week! Parental Guidance
Our social studies lessons will occasionally cover some hard subjects, such as civil rights, European exploration and colonization, and the mistreatment of Indigenous peoples in North America. This class covers these topics in a very light way that is age-appropriate while still teaching the truth about these moments in history.
Supply List
I will supply the curriculum and printable materials, all your learner needs is a printer, paper, and something to write with. Each week your learner will have a list of optional projects, some of which require other common household items (ex: a box and foil to make a solar oven). This is optional and not a necessity, but will enhance your learner's experience!
