OVERVIEW🐦:
In this 15-week first semester FLEX class, students will exceed state standards as they work through the first half of the comprehensive 3rd grade grammar and writing program. Not only will students gain competency in English grammar, but they will also have a blast doing it. This class is excellent for both native and non-native speakers. The content includes various history and science themes. This class is designed to take students through the material with daily teaching and assignments and setting a pace for completing the course. Learners MUST purchase the books for this course (see links below). The first ten lessons will be provided electronically so that we can get started with learning as some learners wait for their textbooks to arrive.

INTERACTION😀 😃 😄:
Learners will interact through structured weekly discussion posts, check-ins, asking questions, taking interactive quizzes and games, completing assignments, receiving feedback on writing assignments, and exploring additional resources and videos provided. The teacher will check-in with each student weekly via the Outschool messaging system. Learners are encouraged to ask questions through the messaging system.

CLASS STRUCTURE👩‍🏫👩‍💻:
Each weekday for fifteen weeks, learners will be sent an instructional video with assignments. After viewing the instruction video, students will complete the coursework. Each week we will cover approximately three to four grammar lessons and one writing lesson. There are five Kahoot tests which will be assigned throughout the semester. Grammar meetings will be posted on Mondays. For this, a question will be posted for class discussion. Students can give a written or video response. On Thursdays, students will be given the 🚨Thursday Grammar Challenge🚨. This may be a challenge to find grammar errors or to memorize a grammar chant or song.

ABOUT THE CURRICULUM📘:
English Grammar
This rigorous program focuses on English grammar, writing, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Because this is an introductory course, students are not expected to know all the concepts ahead of time. By the end of this course, students should have an excellent grasp on these concepts and be well equipped for middle school grammar. Learners will have repeated opportunities to review through the spiraling incremental lessons. This curriculum is designed for 3rd grade, but an advanced 2nd grader or even new to English grammar 4th grader would do well in this class. After every ten lessons, students will have a Kahoot grammar test, which should take about 10 minutes.

Writing:
Learners will also be given a great foundation for writing style and structure. They will be taught how to produce strong interesting sentences. Learners will learn to construct sentences and paragraphs and also implement the different purposes for writing (narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive). We will conclude writing instruction by writing a summary for a chapter of a book. Students will have writing lessons in class after every five lessons. Each of the ten writing assignments should take about fifteen minutes outside of class. This level does not include journal topics or dictations.
