 Week 1
Lesson 1
What is a decimal?
In this first lesson on decimals we will learn the parts of decimals and what makes a decimal. We will also look at visual representations of fractions. We will be taking a pre-assessment in this lesson so we can compare data to ensure comprehension.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Understanding place value
In this second lesson on decimals, we will work on learning place value and the role that it plays in understanding decimals. We will create our own place value charts and practice inserting numbers in them.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Decimals and base ten blocks
In this lesson on decimals we will look at how to use base ten blocks to help grow our knowledge of decimals. We will "make our own" decimal numbers using base ten blocks.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Comparing and ordering decimals
In this lesson on decimals, we will learn to recognize larger and smaller decimals using what we already know about decimals and place value. We will put decimals in order from smallest to largest and vice versa.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Decimals and number lines
In this final lesson on decimals we will put decimals on numbers lines and students will be shown how they can use a number line to add or subtract decimals. We will have a post-assessment to check for understanding in this lesson.
By the end of the 5 week course, students should be able to recognize, compare and create decimals. We will have a pre and post assessment to check for understanding.

Two outside websites will be used during this 5 week course. 99math.com is used as a fun way to practice decimal skills. It does not require an account. Blooket.com will also be used as a fun way to practice decimal skills and also does not need an account.
We do frequently use 99math and blooket to play math games. The games are specifically designed with class content.
