***I'm currently on a wait list. Please do not sign up for a time on my calendar if you are not a current student. Message me and I will put you on the wait list. Thank you!*** I am a dyslexia trained reading and spelling instructor and will work with your child 1-on-1 based on their individual needs. During our first session I will do an informal assessment to determine which topics would be the most beneficial for your child. These could include: Blending CVC words Consonant Digraphs (SH, CH, TH, WH, CK, NG) Open and Closed Syllables Vowel-R Syllables (also called Bossy R) (ER, OR, IR, UR, AR) Vowel Pair Syllables (ee, oo, ai, ay, oi, oy, etc) Final Stable Syllables (also called Consonant LE syllables) (dle, zle, gle, fle, etc) Vowel Consonant E Syllables (i-consonant-e, a-consonant-e, etc) Overview of all Six Syllable Types Improving Reading Fluency Improving Reading Comprehension Spelling Generalizations and Spelling Patterns My dyslexia specialist training, which is Orton-Gillingham based, is not only beneficial for dyslexic students but for any struggling or beginning reader. My main goal is for each student to leave feeling more confident in their reading! I've witnessed time and time again that the more confident a child becomes, the faster reading growth occurs. I can also provide a consultation for parents using the availability calendar. (Just sign up as your child but let me know it'll just be us talking.) Striving to add an element of entertainment to reading tutoring, my pug dog Cookie (a certified therapy dog who goes to elementary schools) will be a regular visitor during our sessions. Many of my students' parents tell me that their child can't wait to log on to see what costume Cookie will be dressed in that day! (The best part is the stoic look on his face regardless of the outfit! Haha)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello! My name is Ms. Deb and I am thrilled to be offering classes at Outschool. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Educational Psychology. I also have over 150 hours of Orton Gillingham based training in reading strategies specifically targeted to dyslexic students. (Which are beneficial to all beginning readers.) I have been a dyslexia specialist for twelve years in the public school setting and have privately tutored students for the past fifteen years. I have a heart for working with dyslexic students and their families.
Working with dyslexic students and struggling readers isn’t just a career. It is a personal passion of mine because I have been through the gamut of emotions with my own child. I know the feeling of having a child that is really bright but is struggling in school and not knowing where to turn for help. I also know the joyous rewards of intervention and compassionate teachers that believed in my child. I know how that one teacher can touch your child’s life and ease your anxiety as a parent. I know the proud feeling of seeing your formerly struggling child advocating for himself. I’ve been through the journey. It is so amazing to be able to look my students’ parents in the eye at the beginning of their journey and say, “Time and time again I’ve seen reading intervention work. I will be your partner through this process.”
