Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
Ms. Price believes that learning should be fun, and she will use her skills as a certified teacher to incorporate writing instruction into a fun, interactive class!

This 3-day camp is an adaptation of my popular on-going Creative Writing Social Club for Girls! I have developed this 3-day camp specifically for school holidays where kids are looking for some extra fun activities to do! This camp will be a fun, low-stress environment designed to help elementary-aged girls develop a love for writing by utilizing topics that many girls this age love, including unicorns, fairies, and princesses!! 🧚‍♀️ 🦄 👑

Each class will start with Ms. Price sharing a fun scene that she has set up using unicorns, fairies, and princess toys to get imaginations going! Learners will use their imaginations and draw a picture 🎨 based on the theme of the week. Please note: This is NOT an art class, and learners do not need to have any kind of artistic skills for this class. 😉 The purpose of starting with drawing is it gets those right brain, creative juices flowing! 🧠

After we have drawn our pictures, learners will have the opportunity to share with their peers what they have drawn. They will have the option to show their actual picture to the class or to just verbally describe their drawing (this takes the pressure off of those who are not confident in their artistic abilities). The purpose of this step for students to elaborate on what they have drawn, adding details verbally to what they imagined in their mind and/or put on paper.

Next, Ms. Price will guide the students through taking those creative ideas and putting them on paper in written form. We will focus on using descriptive language, and Ms. Price will guide learners to add details to their stories to make them come alive!

Once learners have their stories written out, they will have the opportunity to share them with the rest of the class!

These classes will be kept small in order to try to provide enough time for all learners to share their completed story. However, with creative writing you never know how long stories will end up being, so it is possible we will run out of time for every learner to share their story (and some learners may not finish writing their stories during class). If this happens, the learners who did not get the opportunity to share will have the option to 1) send their story to Ms. Price after class and she will read and respond to it or 2) share their story at the beginning of the next class (learner may choose which option they prefer).

SCHEDULE: This is a 3-day camp, where we will write one short story each day. By the end of the 3 days, learners will have created 3 amazing stories!

Day 1: Unicorns 🦄 & Fairies 🧚‍♀️
Day 2: Mermaids 🧜‍♀️
Day 3: Princesses 👸🏼👸🏾👸🏻

EXPERIENCE NEEDED: To be successful in this class, learners need to have the ability to take their thoughts and put them on paper. Learners do not need to know how to spell words correctly to be successful in this class. (Spelling words phonetically works just fine for creative writing!) Learners also do not need to use perfect grammar or punctuation to be successful. They just need to be able to take thoughts from their mind and put them onto paper. Some learners will write a story that is just a few sentences long, and some may write a story that is a few pages long. Whatever length of story the learner chooses to create in this class is 100% okay!

AGE OF LEARNERS: Based on Ms. Price's teaching experience, she believes this class is most suited for learners in 1st through 5th grade. If you have learner outside this age range that you believe would benefit from this class, feel free to reach out! We can chat to see if this class would be a good fit for your learner.
Learning Goals
🎨 Students will improve their creative writing skills through learning to use their right brain (creative side) to draw colorful pictures based off a prompt given by the teacher.
🔈 Students will improve their verbal communication skills by describing the picture that they drew to their peers and teacher.
📝 Students will improve their writing skills by taking the story that they have verbally told and putting it on paper, adding details to make it come to life! Students will learn how adjectives help bring a written story to life, the way that color brings a picture to life!
👯‍♀️ Students will develop their interpersonal skills as they share ideas with others, provide positive feedback to one another, and have fun connecting with other girls their age through this fun class!
