Long division is an essential skill for all students and believe it or not, can be fun! This 3 day course will first review the concept of long division and make sure all the students are comfortable with it. We will do many examples of 1-digit divisor work together and learn about the crucial steps of long division. Building upon this, we will work with 2-digit divisors and learn about 'tables of multiples'. We will use a special strategy that reinforces the steps of long division and emphasizes focus on: table of multiples, making sure subtractions work in the division steps is accurate, and not forgetting to bring down the numbers in the dividend. After lots of examples and review we will work on tricky word problems which will help students apply their skills and stretch their thinking. Students are encouraged to bring a pencil and paper, along with a calculator to class. **Students will receive the famous 'Dojo Points' from Mr. Beck for their hard work, along with a certificate at the end of class** Class Schedule Class 1: -- Review long division and practice work with 1-digit divisor. Class 2: -- Get familiar with tables of multiples and structuring long division work. Class 3: -- Focus on core concepts and work together to solve problems. Attempt word problems individually.
