US Grade 2
Beginner Level
Are you ready to jump into an exciting year of 2nd grade math learning? This class is for you! You will experience a community of learners that respect each other and work together to develop a strong understanding of second grade math standards, so important to success in mastery of future math concepts. It is my mission to meet students where they are and help them master skills while gaining confidence and taking risks. This complete curriculum is presented in modules. Each module will focus on a specific set of standards for second grade and will last approximately 6-8 weeks. I have structured the modules so that each will focus on particular standards and can be taken independently of each other. Content within modules may build from the beginning to the end, but each module stands alone, so families can feel free to come and go as desired. At the end of each module, an assessment will be given and any review of concepts will be completed as needed. Throughout the year, we will work together to help you achieve mastery of the second grade math standards. ***This is Module 2: Numbers and Operations: Place Value, Read & Write Numbers within 1,000, and Add/Subtract 3-digit Numbers ***What Our Lessons Will Look Like Each 6-8 week module will explore a new set of 2nd-grade standards. Each class session will include the following: 1. Warm-up/Question of the Day to get to know our classmates and to build community 2. Number Talk to help students develop number sense and engage in mathematical conversations or provide a spiral review of previous skills. 3. A mini-lesson where we explore the standards of the week, providing students with a comprehensive understanding. I teach using Google Slides and concrete demonstration. I use a gradual release strategy in my teaching: "I do. We do. You do." This allows for guided practice before students transition to independent exercises. I use interactive and hands-on methods as often as possible to engage and motivate students. We will end each session with a game or activity to reinforce concepts in a fun, interactive way. We will end our class with a short social time to interact and build relationships. Each week I will post additional practice for students to complete that allow for practicing the skills learned that week, (if desired) along with answers so they can check their work. Each module will end with a brief assessment and time for reteaching or reviewing of specific skills identified by the assessment. The five modules of the year include: Module 1: Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Add and Subtract within 100 Module 2: Numbers and Operations: Place Value, Reading and Writing Numbers within 1,000/ Add and Subtract 3-digit numbers Module 3: Numbers and Operations (con't): Compare numbers using Place Value, add and subtract within 1000, Mentally add or subtract 10 and 100 Module 4: Measurement and Data: Length, Time, Money Module 5: Geometry and Fractions If you have any questions at any time, please reach out and ask. I hope to see you in class soon!
