What will be taught?: This class teaches a full year’s curriculum of Math, English including; reading, writing, grammar/phonics and spelling; Science, including hands-on experiments and Social studies including civics for 2nd grade on a flexible schedule. No live meetings will take place but lots of fun, hands-on videos will be posted to complete at your leisure. Week 1Lesson 1Spelling 1 and Math 1We will go over the weekly spelling words and then in math we will add two-digit numbers with no-regrouping.Lesson 2Math 2 and Science 1We will subtract two-digit numbers with no-regrouping and then we will learn about the parts of a plant in science.Lesson 3Grammar and Science 2We will learn about different types of sentences in grammar. Then in science we will create a model of a plant.Lesson 4Civics, Reading, & Spelling 2We will learn communities in civics and then we will discuss the differences between facts and opinions in reading. We will end by reviewing the weekly spelling words.Week 2Lesson 5Math 1, Science 1, & Spelling 1We will work with odd and even numbers in math. Then we will learn about the needs of plants in science. We will go over the weekly spelling words.Lesson 6Math 2 and Science 2We will continue to work with even and odd numbers in math. We will conduct a science experiment to learn more about the needs of plants.Lesson 7Reading and WritingIn reading we will practice sequencing events in stories. Then we will write paragraphs about our favorite foods.Lesson 8Geography and Spelling 2We will learn about the oceans on Earth and create an art project. Then we will review the weekly spelling words.Week 3Lesson 9Science 1 and Math 1In science we will be learning about what soil is made of and where it comes from. Then we will be discussing the attributes of 2D and 3D shapes in math.Lesson 10Science 2 and Math 2We will learn about the layers of soil and create a yummy representation of them. Then we will continue learning about 2D and 3D shapes and go on a geometric shape hunt.Lesson 11Grammar and Spelling 1We will learn about what makes a sentence complete and how to turn a fragment into a complete sentence. Then we will go over the weekly spelling words.Lesson 12Civics, Reading, & SpellingIn civics we will discuss what it means to be a citizen. We will learn how to use context clues to understand unknown words in reading. Then we will review the weekly spelling words.Week 4Lesson 13Math 1 and Writing 1We will learn how to partition shapes into thirds, halves, and quarters. In writing we will learn about narrative stories and begin planning our own.Lesson 14Math 2 and Writing 2We will connect partitioning shapes to fractions. We will work on our narrative stories.Lesson 15Grammar, Spelling 1, & WritingWe will learn about the parts of a sentence and go over the weekly spelling words. We will write narrative stories.Lesson 16Science, Spelling 2, & EconomicsWe will learn about the forces of gravity and balance in science. We will review the weekly spelling words. Then we will learn about supply and demand in economics.Week 5Lesson 17Math 1 and Science 1We will learn about standard and nonstandard units of measurement in math. In science we will be investigating why animals camouflage.Lesson 18Math 2 and Science 2We will practice measuring the length of different objects. In science we will learn why birds have different types of beaks.Lesson 19Grammar and Spelling 1We will learn about subject-verb agreement in grammar. We will go over the weekly spelling words.Lesson 20Civics, Reading, and Spelling 2In civics we will discuss rights and responsibilities within homes, schools, and the community. Then we will read and discuss a story in reading and review the weekly spelling words.Week 6Lesson 21Math 1 and ScienceWe will measuring the length of objects using centimeters and inches. Then we will learn about the Sun in science.Lesson 22Math 2 and Spelling 1We will practice measuring objects around the house. We will go over the weekly spelling words.Lesson 23Reading and Writing 1We will discuss problems and solutions in stories. The we will learn how to write list poems.Lesson 24Geography, Writing 2, & Spelling 2We will learn about the different parts of a map in geography. We will write animal list poems and review the weekly spelling words.Week 7Lesson 25Math 1 and Science 1We will practice estimating lengths and then measuring them. We will learn about friction in science.Lesson 26Math 2 and Science 2We will continue estimating and measuring different lengths and objects. We will conduct a science experiment to learn more about friction.Lesson 27Grammar and Spelling 1We will learn about the different verb tenses in English. We will go over the weekly spelling words.Lesson 28Economics, Writing, & Spelling 2We will discuss shopping and having a budge. We will learn how to write a summary of a book. We will review the weekly spelling words.Week 8Lesson 29Reading and Spelling 1We will go over the weekly spelling words. In reading we are going to discuss characters and read a story together.Lesson 30Grammar and Math 1We will learn about prepositions in grammar. In math we will estimate and measure lengths of objects.Lesson 31Math 2 and Science 1We will continue to practice estimating and measuring lengths. In science we will learn about the water cycle.Lesson 32Civics and Science 2We will discuss community responsibilities in civics. We will continue learning about the water cycle.
