25-Minute Crash Course on Cursive Handwriting for Teens!

In this ongoing class your teen can join at any time to learn the basics of cursive handwriting. Letter formation, word formation and signature development are some topics covered in the class.

Homework
1 hour per week. Weekly Homework Assignments: After each lesson, students will complete a cursive writing practice sheet, focusing on specific letters, words, or sentences covered in the class. These assignments will help students practice what they’ve learned and refine their handwriting.
Projects
Mid-Term Project: In week 5, students will submit a short paragraph written entirely in cursive. This project will assess their progress with writing sentences and connecting letters smoothly.
Mastery Evaluation
Final Project: In the last week, students will create and submit a personal signature in cursive. This will be a culmination of their learning, where they apply their handwriting skills to a unique, flowing signature.
Assessment
Student's homework will be assessed and graded each week. Please encourage them to submit assignments on time.

Class Experience

In this class, students will learn how to form lowercase and uppercase cursive letters, connect letters to form words, and develop full sentences and paragraphs. The class will be structured into weekly lessons that focus on letter formation, connecting letters, and writing practice through worksheets and assignments.

I will teach using video instructions, step-by-step demonstrations, and guided practice. My teaching style is hands-on, interactive, and responsive, providing feedback on assignments and offering support as needed. Learners will have the opportunity to interact with me through written feedback, assignments, and occasional discussion prompts for sharing progress or asking questions.

Learning Goals

Students will be able to write all lowercase and uppercase letters in cursive, focusing on proper formation and consistency. They will understand the key similarities in letter formation and apply these patterns to write fluently.
Students will learn how to connect cursive letters to form words and sentences with legibility and flow. By the end of the course, they will be able to write short paragraphs in cursive.

Lesson 1:
Welcome and Initial Assessment
 Introductions and goals will set the stage for the course. Learners will complete a guided cursive writing assessment using a provided worksheet to evaluate their current skill level.

Lesson 2:
Pencil Grip, Paper Slant, and Basic Strokes
 Learners will practice pencil grip, proper paper slant, and basic cursive strokes using a worksheet. The focus will be on smooth loops and lines to build confidence and muscle memory.

Lesson 3:
Lowercase Letters (i, j, s, u, w)
 Learners will use copy worksheets to practice lowercase letters with simple loops and curves. Guided practice ensures proper stroke flow and spacing.

Lesson 4:
Lowercase Letters (b, d, f, g, h, k, l, p, q, y, z)
 Using worksheets, learners will focus on ascenders and descenders to master height and depth. Exercises will emphasize uniformity in spacing and alignment.

Other Details

Learning Needs
For learners with dyslexia, colorful guidelines and dyslexia-friendly fonts will be used to support letter formation and readability. Students with ADHD will benefit from the shorter and an interactive class structure.
Parental Guidance
This class does not contain any upsetting or scary content, nor does it require any extra safety precautions. There are no media content ratings to consider for this class, and all resources used are appropriate for learners. If any third-party tools are used, students will only need access to basic materials (e.g., worksheets, videos) and no additional accounts will be required.
Pre-Requisites
Students should have basic writing skills, including the ability to hold a pencil and write legibly in print. No prior cursive experience is necessary, as the class is designed to introduce and develop cursive handwriting from scratch.
Supply List
A one-page printable is attached below, to be used as our cursive handwriting document for this class. Please print before class. 
Pencil: A standard pencil with a good eraser (mechanical or traditional) for practice.
Paper: Lined paper or cursive handwriting practice sheets (either provided or learners can print from the resources given).
Optional: A comfortable eraser for correction, if needed.
Colored pens/pencils (optional but recommended for emphasis on particular letters or practice sheets).

Sources
For this class, the following sources may be used to support the curriculum: Worksheets: Pre-designed cursive handwriting worksheets will be provided, containing appropriate guidance for each letter and word to practice. These will be based on standard cursive handwriting resources. Videos: Instructional videos on cursive handwriting principles, including techniques for writing letters and proper posture, will be referenced from YouTube and educational websites such as Khan Academy Kids. These videos will provide visual examples for learners to follow along. These resources are carefully selected to ensure they are appropriate for learners and do not require any external subscriptions or accounts.
