This course is designed to provide a broad overview of Western music history from its origins to the modern day. Topics will include ancient music, Medieval music, Renaissance music and art, Baroque music, Classical music, Romantic music, and modern music. Each topic will include both slides and musical examples, with some also including short games and/or discussion elements. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions when they want, to be answered when appropriate during the course of the lesson. While there is no prerequisite knowledge required, students should be able to identify at least one modern musical artist for reference.
Learning Goals
Students will gain a basic understanding of music history in the following eras: ancient, medieval, Renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic, and modern.
