1 hour per week. I will provide printouts after every class for students to work on. It will be mostly practicing to write cursive. It will be a couple of pages each time. I recommend working on them every day for about 10 min and stopping before the child gets tired. Instructions will be given for every assignment.Assessment
I will assess the students in order to develop a study plan and am happy to share my findings with the parents if they wish. No letter grades will be given.Grading

This is Part 1 of the series of classes for 1st Grade Russian for Bilingual Children. This is a 8 weeks class for bilingual children who can speak Russian and know the letters in print and want to learn to read and write in Russian cursive. This curriculum is adapted to bilingual children who want to learn Russian as their native outside Russia and are speaking other language/languages. I will introduce the letters from the easiest (those similar to English) to the most difficult ones. Adapting a program for bilingual children often means making the material easier to understand in the limited language environment. And most importantly, making use of every minute of the class, the so called "functional approach" to learning, where every short poem, sentence or word has multiple functions: provide cultural content, introduce new vocabulary, provide material for reading, spark interest and be related to the students' life. We can also go faster or slower depending on students needs. Children need to be familiar with the print letters and do not need to be able to read or write well as we will working on that in class. During this course we will: - be going over the cursive letters of Russian alphabet (starting from the easier ones), - develop phonemic awareness, - work on pronunciation to remove the accent, - learn to write Russian cursive, - improve vocabulary, - work on reading short words and sentences, -discuss the cultural aspects of Russian language as well as politeness -discuss and have fun. Our topics will be as follows: Week 1 Introductions and manners. Letters A, O Short poems Week 2 Consonants and vowels. Letters M, T , K Word games Week 3 Soft and hard consonants. Letters C, Y, P Word games Week 4 Politeness (different uses of Thank you) Letters B, H, X Week 5 Politeness Letters Б,И and Л, word games Week 6 Letters П, Э, Ы Short poems Week 7 Letters Д, Г, Й Short poems Week 8 Letters review. Kahoot Game!!! This class is recommended for those who would like to lay a solid foundation for future balanced bilingual student who can speak, read and write fluently. Happy learning!

Parental Guidance
On our last lesson we will play a Kahoot game created by me to summarize what we have learned so far. It is a lot of fun for the students. . No log in or account is necessary. The children will need a phone to play. They will need to scan the QR code on the screen and it will automatically connect to the game. Then the students will try to answer the multiple choice questions they see as fast as they can. The results will be displayed on the computer screen and we will discuss the results. We may play the game multiple times and most importantly we will have fun.
During the course, I will provide additional optional homework on Quizlet. Using this program is very educational and a lot of fun for the students. Parents will need to create an account for the student using email and password. Creating an account is a very simple process. Again, this is optional.

Japanese is my lifelong passion and I would love to share it with you. I have completed 3 years of Japanese studies in Moldova. Then continued a 1-year Advanced Japanese coursework at City College of San Francisco. I currently hold Japanese Proficiency Tests N3 and N4. I continue learning on daily basis from my spouse, who is Japanese. We often travel to Japan to visit family and our last 2 months' trip was very enjoyable.
I am a Russian native speaker and love teaching children. I come from a family of teachers/university professors and teaching is my lifelong passion.
I am also a mother of three trilingual children (Russian, English, and Japanese), and have been enjoying homeschooling my children for the last 3 years.
The practices and methods of teaching Russian to bilingual children are a relatively new field and are constantly evolving. When raising bilingual/trilingual children, the biggest constraint that the parents are facing is the limited time available for learning Russian. So I am focusing on using the latest methods like the functional approach and CLIL. I am also facing the same constraints when homeschooling my 3 trilingual children. That's why I constantly upgrade my qualifications by taking certified courses from Moscow State University (MGU) so that I can use the best teaching practices with children and make our lessons fun and engaging. One of the last courses I have taken is " Technologies for Teaching Online", which has prepared me better for teaching children online.
When teaching languages, I believe the main goal is to be able to use the skills. That's why the lessons are structured in cycles of 4 or 6 with a presentation at the end, where students can showcase their newly acquired skills.
I enjoy traveling with my family a lot.
