Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will be asked to complete an assignment from each lesson.Assessment
In-class feedback is my preferred method of assessment in comparison to grades; however, if parent prefers, I am more than happy to supply a grade using either the A,B,C,D, F or Standard-based grading of 4,3,2,1 scales. Please request this at onset of the course! Learners do take 5 exams that are completed at home. These are "graded" and students receive individualized feedback. Common Core or Standards Alignment is available upon request.Grading

This course will continue to build on Semester 1's learning of grammar in an in-depth and organized fashion. Students typically have been taught the "Parts of Speech" and lack true understanding of the relationships between grammatical concepts in their own writing. Instead of memorizing the parts of speech, I use the order of grammatical concepts developed by British 19th c. homeschool pioneer Charlotte Mason. Her approach is both logical and creative. Through using 19th c. illustrations, students will demonstrate their growth in writing. They will also be introduced to a modern form of sentence diagramming that has proven to be much easier for students to see relationships between words, parts of sentences, phrases, and entire clauses. Each week, students will have 2 lessons available. They will have 3 days to watch the first and complete the work. I will provide feedback via video. They will then have another lesson and repeat the process. A routine organizer will be provided for students to help them stay on track throughout the week. Each week will also require a discussion between students through a posed question in Classroom. Students will be required to respond to the question and respond to another learner's response. A mystery challenge will be provided at the end of each week. Students will have characters on a gameboard. If they answer the mystery question correctly, they will have a chance to spin the wheel and move forward on the board. Topics in Semester 2 covered are: WK1: Coordinating Conjunctions and Compound Sentences WK2: Subordinating Conjunctions and Complex Sentences WK3: Correlative Conjunctions and Compound Predicates WK4: Pronoun Intro and Nominative Pronouns WK5: Objective Pronouns and Dative/Accusative Case WK6: Possessive Pronouns and Reflexive Pronouns WK7: Demonstrative Pronouns and Interrogative Pronouns WK8: Grammar Application with Creative Writing WK 9: Adverbs and Sentence Adverbs WK10: Phrases Intro and Prepositional Phrases WK 11: Appositives and Gerunds WK12: Infinitives and Participles WK13: FINAL ESSAY with Grammar Application For Semester 1 FLEX, visit: https://outschool.com/classes/19th-century-grammar-semester-1-flex-EBSDheY0#us7L6POINR For Semester 1 LIVE, visit: https://outschool.com/classes/19th-century-grammar-instruction-semester-1-WfWlOp4r#us7L6POINR For the Quarters (the program is divided into 4 quarters as opposed to 2 semesters and meets 1x/week), visit: https://outschool.com/classes/5424e349-05e6-4645-876d-ba784d55b6d6/schedule#us7L6POINR

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
I am a passionate certified teacher who is excited to get to know you!
My main area of focus is grammar. Yes, you heard correctly. I love grammar. I adore grammar. I breathe and dream grammar.
My program is self-developed after years of working with students who loathed, despised, and abominated grammar. Okay, that may be a bit dramatic. However, it is not uncommon for students to feel very confused about it. I would like to challenge that though by offering students a fresh yet
19th century approach.
The 19th Century Grammar Program is a 45 lesson program that uses 19th century homeschooling matriarch Charlotte Mason's original grammar methods, but also incorporates a modern form of sentence analysis. Students enjoy this critical thinking approach much more than the rote memorization offered in most grammar programs. It also helps lay the foundation for understanding punctuation rules including comma usage, semicolons, and preventing run-ons and fragments. This program can either be taken as 2 semesters with 2x/week meetings or 4 quarters with 1x/ week meeting.
I also work alongside Teacher Jade Weatherington. We collaborated, and I developed a course to help students in grammar, punctuation, and word choice in their essays that they write for her course "Mastering the Five Paragraph Essay". My course "Mastering Grammar in the Five Paragraph Essay" is an authentic way for students to refine their skills.
I would love to work with your child whether it is an introduction to grammar, a review, or different approach. Please contact me with any questions so we can find the best fit for your child!
Let's go on this journey of learning together!
