Beatrix Potter, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Robert Frost, Charles Dickens: all writers who capture our imaginations through rich characters and mesmerizing language. Could part of that brilliance be due to their 19th century grammar instruction?! This class is quarter 3 of the 19th Century Grammar Instruction Series. This course is inspired by the 19th century British homeschooling matriarch Charlotte Mason. Mason was a classical educator who believed students should be given a "feast" of ideas and allowed to "feed on the good, the excellent, and the great." She felt dry textbooks full of facts were a disservice to the wonder and life of the young child. This approach is best for students who have been reading and have been exposed to written language for at least 2-3 years. Quarter 3 should be be taken after Quarters 1 and 2 or Semester 1 of 19th Century Grammar Instruction. To be exempt from taking these classes, you must take an entrance assessment to show mastery of grammar concepts learned in Semester 1. Each meeting time, students will be introduced to new material that builds on the prior lesson. They will then exercise their newly gained knowledge in the live class with the use of 19th century illustrations, sharing with each other sentences and writing that apply their understanding. Quarter 3 covers: 3.1 Phrases: Prepositional 3.2 Phrases: Appositive 3.3 PHRASE JEOPARDY 3.4 PHRASE JEOPARDY 3.5 Subject Pronouns 3.6 Object Pronouns 3.7 Reflexive Pronouns 3.8 Possessive Adjectives and Possessive Pronouns 3.9 Pronoun Jeopardy/Bingo 3.1 Conjunction- Coordinate 3.11 Conjunction- Correlative 3.12 Conjunction- Subordinate

Teacher expertise and credentials
I will admit- I love grammar. I love looking at language as a dance between words and punctuation, all working together with intent to create something beautiful. Too often, grammar is taught by teachers who dislike or have not found an approach that works for them. Therefore, students respond negatively and carry with them similar attitudes.
I'd like the try to change that.
