Class Experience

Whether your child knows a few words/phrases or no words at all in Spanish, this is for all beginners. Your child will be unmuted the entire class and interacting as if we were in person - we even get up, stand up and move around quite a bit to keep everyone on their toes (literally)! We will speak mainly in Spanish, but no one will ever be confused for too long - just like how your children learned English: you did not translate, and eventually they figured it out. We will do this through showing, expressions, pictures, telling stories and more. With 750 classes per month, and a new monthly conversational theme, our Bellieu method at TruFluency Kids Spanish Immersion School is consistent and effective!

We use The Bellieu Method for fluency, our trademarked method for acquiring a second language, which upholds songs, singing, dancing, getting them moving to express what they're saying, speaking (when they're ready - everyone has a different speed), relevant material that is useful for everyday life, topics based on the kids attending the class, and letting the student be the focus of the class for ultimate engagement. We are not a 1, 2, 3, red, green, blue type of Spanish class. We teach RELEVANT words used DAILY, for TRUFLUENCY.

Conversation level will be adjusted depending on the level of each student or the group as a whole. Conversation will also be geared towards the interests of the students in this small class. We meet your student exactly where he or she is.

What will they learn or talk about?

In every TruFluency Kids Spanish Immersion course, we change conversational themes every 2-3 weeks (for example traveling, animals, hobbies, what you like to eat, etc). During the discussion of these themes, we will focus on being able to express ourselves in Spanish in regards to this theme. We will always encourage speaking, while also increasing listening comprehension, reading and writing in Spanish. Activities in class include, but not limited to: learning songs, singing, ear training to hear Spanish clearly and pronounce it correctly (yet everyone goes at their own speed). Every class includes an activity such as reading a story, playing a word game, creating a song game with our voices in Spanish, or even a computer game to keep the environment immersive.

While the focus is always on listening/speaking, since that is how children learn language first (and most successfully), we also incorporate some reading at a reasonable age.

Singing is incorporated into every class.

Conversational Topic of "Back to School" (For TruFluency Kids Teachers: Do Activities from Lesson 1 and 2 de Back to School Curriculum)
Week 1-2
- Go over a “Back to School” song and lyrics using The Bellieu Method (our trademarked question/answer method based on listening and responding, mimicking a real conversation). We will sing and have lots of fun! (By the end of the course the kids will be able to sing along in Spanish and will know how to use the words and phrases in real life situations!)
- We will review the story and song to reiterate vocabulary and sentence structure, pronunciation and sounds.
-Read a comic about going back to school with our fun Rockalingua (you will get access to this story and song for use at home) main characters Tapon and Clara! We will take turns reading and acting out the comic strip.
- Work on 5-10 new vocabulary phrases, (not just words!) to use in role play conversation. The phrases will focus on the end of summer vacation and how we miss our friends from school.

Conversational Topic : The Fall
During Week 3, 4 and 5 (For TruFluency Kids Spanish Teachers: Do Lesson 1-2, then 3-4, then 5-6 of The Fall / el otoño)
- Memory Game (students take control of the class/Zoom classroom and get to choose cards on the screen - not only the teacher will be in charge!)
- Read a fun story about the fall! We will utilize our trademarked Bellieu Method in class to encourage second language acquisition listening and ear training through songs and questions.
-Play caras y gestos (charades)! We will make two teams. Each team will choose someone and have 20 seconds to act out 2 extracurricular activities and guess them. We will play 5 rounds. The team that scores the most wins!
- Instructional worksheet - teacher will give instructions to draw on page 3 of their favorite extracurricular activity. Bring colored pencils!

Week 6 and 7 (For teachers only: Do Lesson 1- 3 over these 2 weeks - Guacamole Curriculum - found in the weekend folder)
Focus on the Topic of Making Food
- We will learn the Song "Guacamole" and the components of the sentences, vocabulary, and sounds of the language.
- We will pause the first part of the song to give kids time to mimic the teacher and sing with the students. The pronunciation will be practiced via singing and reading (reading only for 7+ ages).
- Begin to familiarize them with how to say various aspects of making a recipe and incorporate pictures and games to remember the new vocabulary.
- Play a computer game (Drag and Match). This game will help reinforce the phrases learned. We will play it during 2-3 classes so they get used to it. Each time the students will have to answer it faster!

Week 8 and 9 (For teachers only: Do Lesson 1 - 4 of Familia / Family (found in the weekend folder)
- We will learn about our family and how to talk about family! We try to let the kids relate their stories as much as possible, using as much Spanish as they can so that they get to tell about their lives.
- Play the Drag and Match Vocabulary once more but this time while acting it out.
- Concept Race (Computer Game) with the students! They have to help the teacher answer as fast as possible. Happy dance (Baile Feliz) at the end!
- As always, the focus is on trying to ask and answer questions, like a real conversation!

Week 10 and 11 "Activities at home" (For teachers only - Do Lessons 1 - 4 of Actividades en Casa - found in the weekend curriculum folder)
-Keep on practicing the pronunciation of the vocabulary words via singing and reading. We will focus on helping the kids have fun while improving their pronunciation.
-Play the memory game two times. First an easy one then a normal one. We will time the game to see if they do it faster next class! Happy dance (Baile feliz) when finished!
-Play caras y gestos (charades)! We will make two teams. We will play 5 rounds. The team that scores the most wins! The winning team will do the happy dance!

Week 12 - Review (For teachers only - review games and lessons that were most enjoyed)
- Play the song. Let each student sing the karaoke at the end. Everyone has to do the choreography too!
- Do some fun quizzes with pictures to ensure the phrases are learned. Happy dance (baile feliz) after the quizzes.
- Pictionary Time! The students will take turns drawing on the whiteboard. Everyone else has to guess. The student that guesses correctly first will have a point. (Happy dance again!)
- Continue to practice the short conversations with assistance from the teacher.
- We will give you the link to some fun flashcards with the vocabulary words. Have fun coloring them with your child and practice pronunciation with them.
- Small competitions to engage and encourage kids.
- Get access to a Spanish craft or worksheet on our website that you can do in the evening or on the weekends.
- Review all topics and games. Repetition and review are critical. We don’t hear a word just one time in order to be able to use it. We must hear it many times.
We will tell you what words and phrases you can practice with your child each week. You will also get access to all of our videos, cartoons, worksheets, crafts, and more (if you want to watch them at home).

24/7 access to all of our music videos, computer games, worksheets, crafts and more ($400 value).
Kids will end the course knowing a new song (which you have access to $400 value) with 20+ Spanish high frequency words (words used daily, not just numbers or colors). With practice, they can apply these to everyday life. Every year we will build increased fluency, confidence speaking, and their ability to understand the spoken language like a native speaker. This program continues with monthly themes until 17 years old.

Learning Goals

2nd language acquisition is about listening, listening, listening. So our goals will be to listen, truly hear the sounds of Spanish, begin having a 'Spanish mouth', read, sing, and learn many vocabulary words, answer questions and learn to understand spoken Spanish and respond to it (this takes time!).

Teacher expertise and credentials
TruFluency Kids! has been getting kids fluent since 2011. We have a Dallas-based Spanish immersion program with over 250 kids locally, and now we're bringing our immersive program online. Learn naturally (no conjugations, useless vocabulary or textbooks), just like your first language, which was a 100% success rate. Is it more important to learn how to ask CRITICAL questions, or learn the months of the year and colors? We teach CRITICAL QUESTIONS and MOST USED words.

Our trademarked Bellieu Method ensures fluency progresses with every class, with relevant vocabulary that would be used on a day to day and minute to minute basis for a meaningful conversation. Learn how to ask questions, make friends, and have TRU conversations.

Our Founder, Micah Bellieu, has used The Bellieu Method to get fluent in Spanish, French and Japanese. She has been researching 2nd language acquisition for over 20 years and applies The Bellieu Method to every class - method supported by linguist, Stephen Krashen's PhD work with 2nd language acquisition. All instructors are native speakers from various Spanish speaking countries! All instructors have 5 - 10+ years of teaching experience with kids.
