Homework
2-4 hours per week. Please have your song learned and memorized to the best of your ability prior to class start time. We will not have time to work on memorizing throughout this class and we will able to act more freely without trying to read/learn our lyrics as we go. *Please contact me in advance if you need help with securing a track with a melody line, or need help with examples of memorizing tricks.Class Experience
**I currently have a waitlist on the go for recurring lesson times. Please reach out if you need help prepping for your next audition or performance. I will do my best to make time in my schedule to help you prepare prior to your big day. I look forward to singing with you!** In this one on one vocal coaching I work with you directly to help you achieve your singing and performance goals. Do you have an audition you need help preparing for? Are you learning this song for your school show? Or are you simply wanting to expand your performance knowledge in a super fun setting building your confidence as a singer and overall performer? Than this is the class for you! Previous singing experience is suggested as this is not a beginner voice lesson and class moves quickly. In this class, we expand on tools we already know and apply them to a song of your choice. In addition, please have your song learned and memorized to the best of your ability prior to class start time. We will not have time to work on memorizing throughout this class and we will able to act more freely without trying to read/learn our lyrics as we go. Prior to class start time please send me a direct message with the following information: 1- What song are you bringing to work on? 2- Do you have the musical backing track or do you need help securing one before class? (If you do have one, please send to me prior to at least 2 days before class start time) 3- Do you have sheet music available to you and are you comfortable reading basic sheet music? (If not no worries, this is not a music reading class but it can be helpful for me to understand your comfort level) 4- On a scale of one to five, how much singing experience do you have? (0 = this is my first time singing in a class but I like to sing around the house / 5 = I've been singing on stage or taking voice lessons for a number of years) 5- What is your ultimate goal for this class? (Ex: I need help with acting this song in a musical, I need to sing in an audition and I am scared, I want to work my performing skills to this awesome new song etc) Once we’ve discussed your specific goals for this class, I will individually cater class content to your learner’s abilities and song selection. Class structure: A- We will begin with a welcome chat touching on the following: Getting to know our abilities, getting comfortable with our voice, making sure we have the required musical backing track and speaker beside us ready for our first sing through and more. B- We will jump into a quick vocal warmup led by Miss Jaymee. It may be preferred to some to come warmed up as I’d like to spend most time on our song and performance. C- I will ask you to jump into a sing through of your song, to get a feel for your voice, and make notes of vocally tricky trouble spots for us to go back on and work through. D- Vocal work through - We will explore basic singing technique and apply various exercises/tricks as needed helping us work through trouble spots as noted by Miss Jaymee during the first sing through. E1- Character development (music theatre pieces only) - We will chat about the character and apply various acting skills / techniques to our song, developing a character, working on objective and more. Or E2- Pop performance technique (pop / rock / non character songs) - We will apply stage presence principles and or/ various microphone holding techniques to our song and more. F- We will take a brief water break giving our learner time to process all notes from earlier. I will also encourage our learner to ask any performance related questions during this time. Example: What can I expect from my first audition, How do I edit an audition tape, How should I tape my sheet music, How do I cope with nerves and more. G- We will finish with a final performance of our song, applying everything to our final run through *Please note, we may not have time to work through the entire song. If songs are extremely lengthy and/or repetitive a “cut” or length edit may be suggested prior to class start time. Please do not hesitate to reach out about further questions and thank you so very much for your interest in this class.
Learning Goals
My goal for all music and voice classes is to encourage self confidence in an inviting and super fun space. Learners will leave feeling more confident in themselves, in their musical abilities, and in their performance of their preselected song.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Parental guidance may be preferred for some learners specifically to help prep the required backing track / speaker set up as listed under "materials".
Supply List
Please have the below prepped prior to class: 1-The musical backing track to the song of your choice and the ability to play it beside you while singing in this class (A downloaded track played via your phone with a speaker plugged in can be preferable) *Please note, I cannot play the track on my end or you will be singing to a 3-5 second delay. This is standard in any virtual voice class *If you need help securing a backing track please do not hesitate to reach out in advance 2-A water bottle on hand may be preferable for some learners 3- For music theatre songs : Any props/costume pieces you feel you may want to use in your performance though this is absolutely unnecessary, whatever makes you comfortable (ie: a chair ect) *I generally caution against the use of props and costumes in the case of auditions as it is best to keep things simple 4- For pop/ rock/ jazz songs only : An optional hand held microphone or prop mic, and or sitting stool as preferred. 5- A notepad and pen may be preferred for taking quick notes 6- Printed sheet music and a pencil for making notes directly in your music may also be preferred for this class if you are a music reader (no worries if you are not!)
