Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
This class is a longer format to our 1:1 25-minute tutoring class. We recommend trying the 25-minute version first to ensure it's a good fit (:

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Let's build your learner's confidence in phonics & reading with personalized tutoring designed for thriving minds! Whether your learner is still learning to identify letters or transitioning into reading on their own, this class fits many different levels of reading. Tailored to each learner's unique needs, my curriculum encompasses a range of essential skills to ensure a strong foundation in language development.

If it is our first 1:1 session together & your learner is a new student I haven't had in any of our group classes, the first session will be similar to an assessment in the first half of class so I can gauge where your learner is at and support them best. (:

**Please note this class includes writing practice and is tailored to your learners needs. Here are examples:
-If we're practicing word families, we can learn anywhere from 4-8 words per word family, but I will only ask they write down at least 2.
-If they're familiar with the word family but need practice when placed in a full sentence, I will ask they write at least 1 of our sentences down (for reading practice outside of class).
-If we're practicing a word that feels tricky & needs more practice, we will write it down and annotate it (underline/draw arrows/circle/box) to note any special rules or blends.

Then, we'll dive into any of the following:
✨Digraphs: Conquer those tricky digraphs! From "sh" to "ch" and beyond, we'll navigate the combinations of letters that produce unique sounds, enhancing your learner's ability to tackle more complex words.
✨Blending & CVC's: Master the art of blending sounds and learning consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words like "cat" and "dog". Through engaging exercises, your learner will enhance their ability to merge individual sounds into whole words, boosting both fluency and comprehension.
✨Sight Words: We'll focus on high-frequency words that appear frequently in texts, ensuring your learner can recognize them instantly for smoother reading experiences. This includes essential sight words such as "the," "and," "said" and much more through interactive games and activities.
✨Word Families: Explore word families to reinforce patterns and rhyming. Activities like creating word family houses or using interactive games can make learning enjoyable. We'll learn the different words families, such as the "-at" family with words like "cat," "bat," and "hat," discovering how changing the initial consonant creates new words.
✨Vowel Teams: Journey through vowel teams (two vowels that make one sound) such as "ea," "oa," and "ie." Engage in word sorts and reading exercises to reinforce these unique combinations. We'll uncover the various sounds of "ea" in words like "beach" and "head," highlighting the versatility of vowel teams.
✨Phonemic Awareness: We'll build your learner's phonemic awareness with activities like sound isolation and blending. We'll also segment the sounds in a word like "frog" into /f/, /r/, /o/, /g/ to enhance phonemic awareness skills.
✨Reading Fluency & Comprehension: Elevate reading fluency by practicing with engaging stories. Your learner will build confidence and enhance their ability to read smoothly and expressively. We'll read short stories together, emphasizing intonation and pace to create a seamless reading experience, while also answering questions based on what we've read for reading comprehension skills.

Since I gauge where your learner is at each lesson, the weekly lessons are fully customizable to your learner's needs. Learners will learn through gamified lessons, short stories & more!

Learning is not just a process but a personalized adventure tailored to your learner's specific needs and developmental stage. My goal is to keep the sessions dynamic, interactive, and tailored to your learner's pace and preferences. By incorporating a variety of activities, your learner will have a well-rounded and enjoyable learning experience.

I have a Master of Business Administration and have been an entrepreneur for 10 years, while serving business owners since 2017. In my classes, you'll find that I love to teach different areas of business, life skills, and early education -- and for fun, Pokémon and K-Pop! My teaching style is engaging and enthusiastic!
Primary classes: Business mentoring, reading/math tutoring, k-pop, sight words.

✨YAZ SANTOS
I am a passionate psychology major and avid Pokémon fan. I enjoy online gaming as a hobby while on the other hand, studying child psychology and development. My purpose in our classes is to ensure all students feel heard and open to share their ideas. As a Pokémon fan, I've played Pokémon since I was the same age as our youngest learners, which is why I believe it's important for all students to feel welcome, whether they're a new Pokémon trainer or have mastered the topic! My teaching style is playful and inviting.
Primary classes: Pokémon!

✨KIJUANA GRIFFIN
I have two years of experience in childcare and early education, where I’ve developed a passion for teaching phonics and early reading with a bonus of being a grandmother to many little ones! (: I love fostering curiosity with young minds to explore the world around them and learn through play & guidance. My teaching style is all about creating a supportive and engaging environment, where we can have as much fun as we can!
Primary classes: Phonics, sight words, phonics & pre-reader tutoring.
