Is your gifted child looking for a new challenge? 

This 1:1 class is for gifted and talented writers who need some guidance in helping to prepare their entry for the John Locke Essay Competition.

We can work at the student's pace, but my plan is to focus on:
a) What is an essay? (What is a paragraph?) How does it differ from a more basic composition?
b) How do we conduct academic research?
c) How do we structure and plan a coherent essay?
d) How do we edit and review an essay?

Students will prepare, plan, construct and review an entry for the John Locke Essay Competition.

I have a Masters and a PGCE from the University of Oxford. I have over 15 years teaching experience.

Homework Offered
Students will be preparing their essay. 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

I have significant experience in working with gifted students. I am also experienced (and have some qualifications) in working with students with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ASD, ADHD and anxiety.

Students need to be skilled writers and orators. They should have a keen interest in current affairs and the world around them.

The essay themes relate to some sensitive topics. Parents are advised to look at the JLI website before enrolling.
