US Grade 1 - 6
Hello, I'm so glad you found one of my classes! This class will focus on understanding phonics patterns and decoding unknown words with those patterns. If this is your first class with me, the initial lesson will focus on developing a positive student-teacher-parent relationship. This includes identifying student interests, strengths, and areas of growth. There will also be discussion between the guardian and myself regarding class goals. Following the first session, if all parties agree this is a partnership we want to continue, then I will use the initial assessments to identify your child's beginning reading level. This information will be used to develop lessons based on student performance. Direct instruction will begin during the second session. This is because it takes time to develop individual lessons for your child. Lesson structure: 1. Warm-up by playing a sound game 2. Vowel intensive drill (if needed) 3. Visual drill (saying the sounds of each phonics pattern) 4. Blending drill (blending sounds into words) 5. Introduce a new phonics pattern 6. Read words in isolation 7. Read sentences/passages Additional work outside the class is not required. However, I would highly recommend reading and outside of class. The fee for this class is based on live instructional time, as well as time spent preparing specific lessons and materials for your child.
Learning Goals
Students will increase overall reading ability by gaining phonics and decoding knowledge.
