I will work with your learner to prepare them for an upcoming Spelling Bee. This class will also be an excellent way to deepen knowledge of vocabulary and word origins by identifying bases and roots.

I will work with your learner to prepare them for any upcoming spelling competition or test. Together I will help them develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for how the English spelling system works. I have had extensive professional development in the Structured Word Inquiry approach to spelling and have seven years of experience teaching it in a brick and mortar classroom as well as one year experience teaching it on Outschool.
Your learner should be a confident speller for their age, but may have gotten by with a strong memory or visual skills that allow them to recognize when a word is spelled correctly.
Parents should understand that as we research words that share common bases, roots or history, we may come across words that have a more "adult" meaning or connotation. These instances will be handled in an age-appropriate manner and I may suggest that the learner direct questions about the meaning of particular words to their parents after class.
We will utilize a number of online resources together, but this will always be done via screen share under my direction. Parents should understand that learners may decide to use those resources on their own time after class to continue their research. None of the sites we use require a log-in or subscription, all are free for anyone to use.
