Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
As a young person, it is helpful to know how to be a good friend, sibling and classmate. What characteristics does a good friend have? Are they good listeners? Helpful? Encouraging? Are they trustworthy? What type of friend are you? To find a good friend, BE a good friend. In this class, we will talk about BEING a great friend to ourselves first, then to others. We will make a Friendship Book together, writing and illustrating what your student feels is important in their friendships and relationships. The book can be used by parents and students. Read it at night, together. After each page ask, "How were you helpful today? Did you work together with someone? Were you honest? Did you communicate?"

This is a one-time class that can be taken once or several times. I highly recommend taking the class in two sessions. In the first class, we focus on positive friend characteristics and talk about what is important to the student. We discuss "To find a good friend, BE a good friend", "ACT like the friend you want to have." and "Treat others how you want to be treated." We write the book during the first class. In the second class we highlight real life examples and use those examples to illustrate the book.

This class is a fun way to identify how to be a good friend to someone else (I listen, accept, support..) and what your student desires from others (honesty, communication, sharing, working together, listening, etc.). Many parents have reported that students were able to review their book (their own words) when going through challenges in their friendships or relationships. Parents can use the book to celebrate and praise when they see their student following their words. For example: I saw you sharing with your friend today. I appreciated how you listened in the car.

I teach three 1:1 Confidence and Kindness Classes: Each 45 minute class has a lesson and an art project. I suggest that you create a Ms. Leslie folder to keep notes and projects in. After a few sessions, I will ask students to revisit the concepts so that I can see if they are incorporating the lessons into their daily lives. ***

This is a 1:1 Confidence and Kindness Class, part of a series that can be taken in any order, at any time.
1. "I AM" class (Who are you? Know yourself inside and out!)
2. "YET" class (Growth Mindset. "I can't do it." -VS- "I can't do it YET!")
3. "Confident Friendship" - To Find a Good Friend.. BE a Good Friend!" (Make a book about Friendship, starring yourself!)

Please see reviews for my "I AM", "YET" and "Confident Friend" Kindness and Confidence classes to hear directly from parents about their child's experience in my Life Skill/Wellness classes and to see student pictures of the projects. Links below.
