IMPORTANT NOTE: My availability reaches far beyond what is showing. Please message me to request a particular time ! I will meet with your learner to teach new reading and/or writing skills* once or twice a week. Your learner's academic goals and progress are my priority not only during each session but also as I prepare personalized, engaging activities and lessons specific to your learner's needs, interests, and learning style. Writing topics include correct letter formation, handwriting, spacing, capitalization, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. Reading topics include letter recognition and sounds, blends, digraphs, decoding activities, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and summarizing. Our time will be interactive and conversation based, and I always incorporate positive self-talk and affirmations. Class time also includes modeling (me providing concrete examples) and consistent support. Having been a journalist before becoming a teacher, I like to use a unique strategy for teaching grammar and writing skills to students. Your student will have an opportunity to find and correct mistakes in materials I prepare specific to your learner's level. These editing skills pertain to capitalization, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, verb tense and conjunctions (based on reading proficiency level as we grow). Your student's ability to edit sentences will enhance your student's writing performance. *NOTE: My tutoring sessions can include additional topics relevant to my education and experience: ELL, Geography/Maps, and preparation for Kindergarten.
Learning Goals
Learner will obtain new skills for writing complete, grammatically correct sentences and organized paragraphs, and/or learner will acquire new techniques for reading fluently and increasing comprehension.
Learner's confidence and eagerness to read or write will grow.
