Beginner Level
Is your student struggling with reading? Are you unsure on how to help them move forward with their reading skills? My approach for helping students progress and improve upon reading is through fun lessons using interactive games. The lessons I base my class on is the Explode the Code series of books. These books make learning to read fun. This class students learn the beginning phonetic sounds of the alphabet including ed words, all and alk words, ild and ind words, qu words, thr, shr, and scr words, str, spr, and spl words, ey words. Students will complete reading, writing, and spelling activities. Students will be encouraged to have paper and pencil available to write down words with the sounds for the current lesson. In class the teacher will use screen sharing to show student activities covering the phonetic sound that we will do together in class, each student being given the opportunity to answer questions about the lesson. Lessons are lined up as the following: Lesson 1: ed words; Lesson 2: ed words; d and t Lesson 3: all and alk words; Lesson 4: old, alt, oll words Lesson 5: ild and ind words; Lesson 6: threes sounds of ed, word families Lesson 7: qu words; Lesson 8: thr, shr, and scr words Lesson 9: str, spr, and spl words; Lesson 10: ey words Lesson 11: three letter blends, qu words, ey words At the end of class we will have an interactive game time on one of three sites: nearpod; kahoot; or blooket; using the sounds learned in that class. It is recommended students have another device to play the game on but it is not required. Students can play on the same device they are in the zoom classroom in. Parents are encouraged to be prepared before class and be available to help their students with this portion of the class if needed. At the end of class a PDF worksheet will be provided in the outschool classroom, and a link and code to the game on nearpod to play after class is over independently.

Students are asked in class to read and write the words we practice in class. It is recommended that students have paper and pencil to practice writing with. You can print out the attachment in below section and put it in plastic paper sleeve, and then they can use a dry erase marker to practice with. Fine tip markers are recommended. We will also be using nearpod.com for the lesson and the game, a link and code will be provided in class. The teacher will also be screen sharing as well.
All the games sites: gimkit.com, kahoot.it, nearpod.com, blooket.com do not require an email or login. The Teacher will provide a game link/code in class for students to join.
