***After enrolling, please include your child's grade, reading level, or a book they are currently reading.

In these personalized literacy and reading comprehension sessions, I will work with your learner one-on-one to help them gain confidence in their ability to understand a reading. My goal with this class is to create a safe place for each learner to ask questions, freely make mistakes, and learn at their own pace. Feel free to message me of you are looking for longer meeting times, additional weekly meetings, if your child needs after-school homework help, or if you would like for me to focus on a specific area with your child.

We will read different books, short stories, poems, and other pieces of writing based on your child's grade or reading level. We can read together from a book or on the screen, and I can make assignments for your learner to complete between meetings. We will have discussions based on the reading, and your child will practice answering written questions and take fun and informal quizzes along the way.

Your child will improve their ability to read out loud and silently, increase their ability to understand vocabulary and passages based on context, and their ability to recall information and used previous knowledge. This class focuses on your child's understanding of reading and moves along at their pace.

External Resources
We will use Google Doc and Google Drive for any written assignments to be sure all of your child's assignments are in one place. This also allows for easy editing for me, since I can edit and make notes in real time on their assignments during or outside of class. These are free services; learners can use their own Google account or a parent/guardian's. All communications with remain on Outschool via the Classroom or the Conversations/Messages tab.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their literacy and reading comprehension at their own pace in a comfortable and encouraging environment.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional academic and creative writing editor. I have worked with learners to improve their writing and reading comprehension at all levels, from new readers practicing phonics to college and graduate level readers deciphering texts. I have also taught phonics, pronunciation, and reading as an ESL tutor for several years. As an avid reader myself, there are few things I enjoy more than teaching students how to get the most out of what they're reading!
