Class Experience

People who engage in a practice of mindfulness build confidence, are better able to cope with stress, respond better to uncomfortable and challenging moments, and develop positive social relationships. Mindfulness also helps us build good planning, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, all part of what is called executive function.

This one-time class is designed to introduce the student to the concept of mindfulness and in the process help them learn how to apply mindfulness to their life. For the purposes of the class, mindfulness is defined as:
	- Paying attention to what is happening in the present moment.

In class, I'll help the student first understand this definition. We'll then engage in a short breathwork exercise designed to center us. After that, I'll invite them to become present with their senses, choosing at least two for us to consider in the present moment:
	- What do you see? How does what you see make you feel right now?
	- What do you hear? How does does what you hear make you feel right now?

By learning mindfulness skills, we increase our well-being while enabling ourselves to meet the stresses of the world with presence, self-compassion, and openness.
