Homework
1 hour per week. The learner will be given alphabet sheets as well as cut and paste sheets during the week for extra practice. The homework will take about 10 minutes and reinforce what we are doing in class. Parents are strongly encouraged to review the letters, sounds, and words that we are going over with their child for extra reinforcement and better retention. I want to encourage parents to help their child sit close to the computer to help with attention. Also if you could have a supply container with paper, pencils, a small handheld white board, expo marker, and eraser handy for each class, this will be very helpful.
Assessment
The learner will have an informal pre-assessment during the first class to help guide the teacher's instruction for future classes. The teacher will communicate with the parent about the assessment and give helpful tips and resources to use at home that reinforce what the student is learning in class. The learner will be assessed periodically to check to make sure he/she is retaining what we are going over in class. If there are any missed skills, the teacher will reteach these skills to help the learner retain them. This class can be continued for as long as the parent feels it will benefit the child.

Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
In this one to one tutoring class, the learner will receive private and individualized lessons to support those Reading and Math skills that are taught in Kindergarten. This class will also prepare those preschool learners who will be going to Kindergarten. In the first class, the teacher will do various activities to informally assess the learner on skills such as letter recognition, letter sounds, phonemic awareness, recognition of numbers to 5, shapes, and counting objects to 5. Depending on what the learner already knows, activities in the class will be scaffolded up or down. The assessment will be used to guide instruction in future classes to help the student learn pre-reading and Math skills that he/she needs help with. The results of the assessment will be communicated with the parent, as well as helpful tips and activities to do with the learner throughout these lessons. In this class we will go over the names of the vowels, as well as learn their long and short sounds. We will focus on learning a specific letter and the letter’s sound. As the learner is introduced to a new consonant, we will practice blending the consonant sound with each vowel, using a chant as well as hand motions to blend the new sounds together. The student will learn through play, how to catch sounds with their ears, spoken and sent by the teacher. The student will, in turn, say the letter sound back to the teacher and watch the teacher catch the sound back in the same manner. The student will have practice writing the letters and later on writing CVC words. We will also practice counting objects, writing numbers, and work on shapes. In this class, it will be helpful for your child to sit near the computer to be able to focus well, to be able to see the slides, and to be able to participate in different games as well as phonics songs. Depending on what your child already knows, we can either move faster with the pace of these lessons or we can slow the lessons down to make sure that your child has time to process all of the information. I try to make this class very interactive with all of the games that I have made. Students that are struggling in reading as well as those that just want to get a jump start before Kindergarten are welcome. If you are interested in this class, feel free to message me to see if I have any available times for your child.
Refund Policy: If your child is sick, please let me know before class starts and preferably the night before. I will work with you to do a makeup class or in some cases a refund.

Learning Goals

In this class, the student will participate in phonemic awareness skills to learn to hear the sounds in words. Learning to hear the sounds in words will help the student to write the sounds in words later on. The student will learn to recognize the names of each vowel, each consonant, and their associated sounds. The student will be given practice writing these letters in class, using a white board. Tracing/Writing sheets will be available for the student to have access between classes. These will be offered to give the student extra practice at home and to reinforce what is being done in class. As the student is learning the sounds, activities will be done to blend sounds to make words. The student will also be introduced to some basic sight words to help him/her recognize these in sentences
