Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
I am a licensed teacher and reading specialist that values play-based learning. I want learners to think reading is fun and enjoy their learning process as much as possible. I will meet each learner at their starting point with kindness and creativity, and will help build their reading foundation and support them on their reading journey.

In these fun sessions, I will help learners build reading skills, confidence, and comprehension through phonics-based games, activities, and by reading together. I use virtual worksheets, hands-on letter activities, short books and reading passages, and simple rhymes or pictures to help learners remember reading rules. All of the games that we play are phonics-based and used to build skills around phonemes and graphemes, vocabulary, word building, reading rules, and sentence structure.

Lessons will include topic such as:
-Phonics and phonemic awareness, including phonemes and graphemes
-Word-building and decoding
-Heart Words (high-frequency irregular words that you need to know by heart)
-The Magic E
-Syllable work
-Vowel Teams and Letter Pairs
-Accuracy and fluency
-Reading comprehension

Lessons are structured in this way:
-Greeting
-Lesson Introduction (I will give a brief lesson around the topic of the day)
-Virtual Worksheet around topic (from my shared screen, no printer needed)
-Lesson-based game or fun activity
-Phonics Practice (this may also be done as a game or as a shared-screen activity)
-Brain Break (a quick moment to stretch, ask questions, or do some silly breathing work)
-Read Aloud (the learner will read aloud from an age-appropriate book or slide that I will share on my screen. This includes a reading comprehension review question.)
-Wrap-Up (quick review, questions, and goodbye.)

This lesson structure gives learners time to build their skills through both play and hands-on activities. It also includes reading time so they can have practice reading out loud every session in order to build fluency and accuracy.

In the first lesson, I will do some skill assessment to see where they need more support. Each subsequent lesson is individualized for the learner so they can focus on their reading goals.

Let's read together!

Learning Goals

My main goal is to help learners become comfortable and confident in their reading skills. We will work to build fluency, phonics and phonemic awareness, comprehension, and be able to read beginning reader books (and beyond) on their own. I am ready to support them in their reading needs.
