Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
This class is structured to provide individualized learning instruction in language arts in the areas that the learner or their parents request. Our initial session will include some assessment as to their current capabilities and the sessions will be adapted to their level of proficiency and progress.
Together we will work on either of these or a combination thereof:
Reading: Focus on incorporating different reading comprehension and analysis skills with short articles or stories that match the student's current level of skill.
Writing: Support in building their writing skills through participating in the 6 stages of writing (brainstorming, planning, drafting, editing, revising, & publishing) and building stamina for reluctant writers.
Grammar: For younger students, this may include games and for older students, it is not only short lessons in grammar, but identifying how it is found in books or utilized in writing.
Phonics: For those needing it, I will utilize a science of reading approach to help build the student's ability to decode the written language.
Spelling: Support the student in studying and learning the appropriate spelling rules for their spelling list.
Vocabulary: Lessons focus on using context clues and other text resources to identify the meaning of words or provide insight into the meaning of keywords in a text to help the learner understand the text better as a part of a pre-reading strategy.
Literature Studies: Utilizing all of the above elements with a rich base text to branch our lessons off of, usually focusing on a particular theme, subject, or genre.
