1:1 English Tuition - Reading, Writing, Phonics & Conversation

In my English tuition sessions, every single thing we do is fully personalised to you and where you are at in your English learning journey. Based on what you would like to work on, we will be able to explore the full breadth of English study, including reading comprehension, reading for pleasure, writing, grammar, composition, performance and public speaking. 

These twice-weekly classes are designed specifically for early readers who are developing their decoding and phonics.

In this way, this tuition is suitable for all students of English - for those students for whom English is an Additional Language, our classes can support you towards greater fluency.

Through messaging over Outschool, and through our first session, the focus of our first session will be agreed upon, and from that point onwards, I will amend the focus of my teaching dynamically to meet the pace, needs, ambitions and proclivities of your child.

Each session will involve two or three focused activities, which will be agreed and discussed with students and families in advance. Each session will involve a combination of direct instruction, rich discussion, shared writing activities and grammar activities, depending on the agreed focus of our tuition.

In each session, our work will be completed during the class, and we will be engaging in rich and plentiful conversation for the duration of the session. I will share an optional additional follow-on task which may be completed ready for the next session, if requested, and will gladly read any student writing between sessions.

My teaching style is respectful of children's autonomy and intellectual growth. I am a well-regarded teacher on the platform, and in all of my lessons, I am able to create a warm, funny and safe learning atmosphere, in which children feel confident to take risks and challenge themselves without fear of failure or embarrassment. 

The opportunity to spend time working one-to-one with your child - building a curriculum with them and for them - is a great privilege, and something I will take pride in.

I am a professional teacher-writer. My teaching qualification is an PGCE (Primary) from the University of London. After years as a class teacher and an Assistant Headteacher in urban schools, I now work as a freelance specialist teacher, developing children's creative writing, poetry and knowledge of mythology. I lead and facilitate residential poetry retreats in the forest, and creative writing clubs in East London state schools. 

And I write too of course. I am an author of early reader phonics books for Little Wandle Letters and Sounds (HarperCollins UK) and Floppy's Phonics (Oxford University Press).
