Does your learner have a reading requirement for a specific novel? Are you wanting to make sure that your learner has the support that they need to read a "classic" novel? In this ongoing class, we meet one on one to discuss a book chosen by your learner (or assigned). Together we will set a schedule of the number of pages and purpose for reading between classes. Read learner selected or assigned books with understanding. Complete any suggested writing or project activities assigned with the book study. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.2: Determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.9: Compare and contrast texts in different forms or genres (e.g., stories and poems; historical novels and fantasy stories) in terms of their approaches to similar themes and topics.
I have two masters in education, and teaching degrees in both elementary and early childhood education. I have an additional certification in teaching reading. I am highly qualified as both a history and science teacher. I have taught in a public school for over 25 years. I was awarded a Reading Teacher of the Year award twice during my career.
