Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 7
Beginner - Advanced Level
I cater to each individual actor's needs depending on whether this is your first time acting, or your 1000th time taking the stage. I start with identifying what you'd like to work on, whether that be theatre, on camera work, or a mix of both.

In my sessions I focus on teaching kids how to break down text, build character, audition technique, and most importantly teach them stage presence and confidence in their creative choices! I also emphasize an importance on voice and speech, physicality and movement with the body as if on stage or in front of the camera.

As a one on one coaching session, this is very interactive. I am active with the actors the whole time, taking turns listening to their scene, reading as their scene partner if applicable, and providing active feedback during the session.

I use the methodology that is the foundation for all actors in today's industry. These are the standard teachings you will find in any acting program as they are the foundation in which all modern acting is built off of, (don't let this intimidate you if you're a beginner! It's a lot of extra info in case you're curious):

- Konstantin Stanislavski - The Stanislavski system or method is an approach to theatre and film acting developed by Russian theater practitioner Konstantin Stanislavski. Through preparation and rehearsal, the system aims to create an emotionally expressive and authentic performance. I use this method to teach my students how to internalize their character’s inner life, set their character's motivations and identify their emotional states. Stanislavski is known as the father of modern acting. Book title: An Actor Prepares

- Sanford Meisner - The Meisner technique involves three main components: emotional preparation, repetition, and improvisation. Meisner explained emotional preparation as doing whatever is necessary to enter a scene “emotionally alive.” I teach my students to imagine circumstances or pull from real personal experience. This preparation teaches actors to "react" off of their scene partner from an authentic place. This is often referred to as "living truthfully under given circumstances." Book Title: Sanford Meisner On Acting

- Michael Shurtleff - Shurtleff uses the "12 Guideposts" as principle steps to take when analyzing text and building character. I use Shurtleff guideposts to break down audition material in order to tell a full story in a short time. - This is known as "audition technique." Shurtleff is always taught at the Collegiate level, but as it's such great material, I teach the Guideposts in a way children/tweens can understand. Book title: Audition: by Michael Shurtleff
Learning Goals
Confidence speaking on stage or in front of the camera
Text/Script Analysis (breaking down story, understanding 3-Act structure, discovering what your character wants and why they are there. Similar to that of an English or Language Arts course, or reading comprehension)

Parental Guidance
If you choose to use the scripts I provide, sometimes the content may have characters discussing matters you are uncertain of, or may be a touchy subject. (I.e. talking about a parent who's passed away, or characters using words like "stupid") I always provide parents and caregivers with the opportunity to review any script materials beforehand if they choose to do so.
Pre-Requisites
