Welcome! I am so excited to sing with your learners. Absolutely no experience is necessary just a willingness to sing and to learn more about our voice.

General Class Breakdown: (*subject to change depending on skill level of vocalist and learning goals for each class)
1- Welcome chat
Let’s outline our goals for today’s class. A brief chat about what we’ll be working on, where our voice is sitting today, and a great opportunity to work through some beginner singer jitters with Miss Jaymee.
2- Vocal warmup
Vocal health is extremely important! Let’s explore why and how with guided vocal warm ups and more. From breath support, to singer’s stance, to sirens, Do Re Mi, and beyond, we will work towards building a strong base foundation in vocal technique.
3- Application of vocal technique to song of choice
Please select in advance 4 or 5 songs for us to work on during the semester. These should be songs your learner is already familiar with so as not to worry about memorizing lyrics during class time. I am quite familiar with music from the Disney repertoire, and children’s music theatre pieces as well, but anything goes from rock to pop to country just please let me know in advance so I can prepare for class ahead of time.

10 Week Curriculum:
Week 1 - Beginner Singer Theme
In our first class, beginner singers will be encouraged to discuss what they love best about singing. How does it make them feel? Does certain music make you feel certain things? Core basics including singer’s stance, breath support, and more will be introduced. Singers will explore various beginner exercises encouraging healthy vocal technique all while getting a feel for their own voice. Song 1, as preselected by your learner, will be introduced and vocal technique and helpful tricks will be applied to our song.

Week 2 - Classical Vowel Placement and Pitch Theme
Singers will continue to explore their own voice as new musical exercises are introduced. Pitch and “singing in tune” will be explored. Warm, classical vowel placements of the mouth, lips, and tongue will be examined through our “vowel train” exercise. After a sufficient vocal warm up, we will continue to work on Song 1, working through tricky trouble spots and exploring how to achieve our healthiest sound.

Week 3 - Nerves, Jitters, and Musical Ears Theme
Let’s chat about why we get nervous and how we can work through our nerves together. Simple exercises will be followed while singers learn how to manage nervous energy. A vocal warmup will be followed with an acute focus on pitch matching. We will hone in on our singers’ musical abilities with a focus on listening. Let’s build on do-re-mi and rhythm during ear training exercises in today’s session. We will be introduced to Song 2, working through melody, lyrics and more.

Week 4 - Young Performer Theme
A brief vocal warmup will be followed today. Hums, sirens, beginner scales and more will be explored in a healthy supported way. We wrap up on Song 2 working the big ending and adding in elements of performance like microphone technique, acting through song, and singing with feeling. A great class for learners to ask questions about the performance industry or about auditions. *Please feel free to bring a microphone or a prop like a microphone if preferred for today’s session.

Week 5 - Vocal Technique and Beyond Theme
A full vocal warmup is followed as we build on old warmups and learn new ones while honing in on vocal technique. Ear training exercises will wrap up today’s warmup up as Miss Jaymee sings short melody lines using do-re-mi as the learner listens and repeats. Song 3 is introduced. We will examine vowel placement and breath through musical phrases and beyond.

Week 6 - Performance Ready and Concert Theme
We will jump immediately into a brief vocal warmup. Hums, oos, ahs and beyond will establish a great foundation for today’s concert performance. We may quickly review tricky trouble spots in last week’s Song 3. Today’s class concludes with a virtual concert performance of Songs 1, 2, and 3. Our learner will be encouraged to perform each song while demonstrating the techniques and abilities as discussed in previous classes. Miss Jaymee will note any trouble areas and time permitting, will guide our learner through appropriate vocal modifcations.

Week 7 - Breath Review and Circles of Sound Theme
A guided warmup commences today’s class with a particular focus on breath and sustained “long” notes. Our imagination exercise, “circles of sound” is introduced while learners are encouraged to support held notes while maintaining pitch and use their breath to support sound. We are introduced to Song 4. Rhythm work while solidifying melody and lyrics will be encouraged all while maintaining warm open vowel shapes on sustained notes.

Week 8 - Confidence and Review Theme
A full vocal warmup is followed as we build on old warmups and learn new ones while honing in on vocal technique. Miss Jaymee will challenge our learners to share what they find most helpful for beginner singers. Let’s review elements like breath, singer’s stance, open mouth positions and more. Confidence in our musical abilities is solidified while working through Song 4. Our learner will perform the song from top to bottom, Miss Jaymee taking notes on any trouble spots. Trouble spots in Song 4 are then examined and worked through, while vocal technique is applied.

Week 9 - Singing is Fun, Fun, Fun Theme
A full guided warmup is introduced as we explore fun new exercises themed around our learner’s favourite things like foods, colours, and words. Song 5 is introduced as vocal technique is applied to our song of choice. Let’s have fun while working our newest song exploring a lift in the soft palate. We continue to process elements like circles of sound, breath support, lyrics, and more.

Week 10 - Semester End Review and Concert Theme
A brief warmup is followed to start today’s class. Let’s make sure our voices are concert ready! We discuss the various vocal elements as highlighted in our semester long course and remind ourselves to make healthy choices when approaching our songs. Our singer engages in a final semester end concert where Songs 4, 5 and an additionally selected song are performed. A friendly post-concert chat will encourage our singers to ask any final questions about the world of performance and final goodbyes are shared.

Thank you so much for your interest in this class I can't wait to sing with you!

Hi there! I am absolutely thrilled to be sharing my voice and performance art based classes over the Outschool platform. My goal for every class is to encourage self confidence in your learners in a fun, high energy, and inviting space.

I am a Canadian music theatre artist and vocalist who holds a High Honours degree in Music Theatre Performance. I have performed on stages across the globe including Canada, Europe, and Dubai. I have performed as a mainstage singer with Disney Cruise Lines on board the Disney Fantasy, with Canada’s Wonderland, and as lead soprano of the opening cast on board the AIDA Nova.

Performance aside, I have been working with youth in various capacities over the last decade and am always looking at ways to inspire growth through teaching and the arts.

I teach voice lessons with a focus on classical voice technique as a foundation. I will help your learner safely sing various styles of music from rock to pop to music theatre. I love all things music and voice, so to share that passion with your learners is a dream come true.

Currently, I am working with Canada's Mini Pop Kids as their vocal coach helping get them ready for their upcoming tour. I have worked as a youth talent wrangler and acting coach on set for commercial and print shoots in Toronto. I teach set etiquette for little ones and help maintain high levels of performance energy during long shoot days. I also coach young actors during filming to get immediate results on screen.

I also work as a professional princess for the Toronto based party company, Forever Fairest. I lead high-energy princess sing alongs, host all sorts of dance games with introductory choreography, and more.

My work with the YMCA included teaching various classes like Arts and Crafts, Storybook Craft Time, Tiny Tots Soccer, and Fitness for Youth! I was a day camp and leadership camp counsellor for a number of years and also spearheaded a semester long acting program.

As a professional music theatre performer, I work with children of all ages in shows of various capacities. Starting out in community theatre as a child myself, I always do what I can to make everyone feel welcome, important, and inspired. The teachers I remember most are the ones who encouraged me to follow my dreams while instilling the importance of work ethic in a lively classroom setting.

I look forward to hearing from you and I cannot wait to see your learners shine in class.
