Homework
1-2 hours per week. There will be 2 related assignments and at-home practice suggestions given for each student. These are not mandatory - rather, they are opportunities for students to work towards their goals faster than if we simply practice in tutoring sessions.Assessment
The initial meeting will be an assessment. After our initial meeting, we will set the assessment schedule based on goals. For example, phonics-related goals will likely happen more quickly than higher level comprehension goals.Class Experience

Ms. AJ is a certified elementary teacher with over 10 years in upper elementary education. I currently work as an elementary librarian, and spend my time supporting students in their literacy and growth of their reading lives. In our 1-on-1 lesson, we will begin with a reading assessment for me to find our starting place. I will then work with the student and their parents to set reading goals and give you a clear timeline from tracking progress, reassessing skills to monitor growth, and check-in dates to ensure you are satisfied with our progress in general. Each session will be different based on your guidance, your learner's needs and interests, and the goals we set together. Some students will require explicit, repetitive, and targeted intervention for phonemic awareness and phonics skills. Others will be working on comprehending the literal elements of the story, and some students may be prepared to make deeper, more inferential analysis of the texts. The impacts of both pandemic learning and blended literacy initiatives are evident in literacy instruction right now. Whether you have a learner who is struggling to recover from interruptions to their learning, low quality literacy instruction, or they are simply needing a boost to get them on the right track in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade, I have got you covered!
