After assessing your child's reading and spelling abilities, I will create an individualized tutoring plan to support their growth in these areas. Your child will receive explicit and systematic phonics instruction based on the Orton-Gillingham method, which is particularly beneficial for students who need to review phonics skills, require additional practice, have learning disabilities, or are diagnosed with dyslexia. To ensure effective tutoring, the teacher suggests meeting 2x per week. Book additional recurring meetings after the initial purchase.Mrs. Long's Qualifications and Experiences in Education -2009 earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. -2011 obtained a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. -2012-2016 taught reading and writing in the classroom utilizing Lucy Caulkins Reading and Writing Program -2024 Obtained Master's degree in Education, specializing in literacy. -2024 Trained in the Orton Gillingham method. Mrs. Long has been in the education field since 2008 and has instructed students ranging from TK to 8th grade in various subjects.
Homework Offered
Students can practice with printable decodable readers, age-appropriate letter and word formation lines, and other materials as recommended by Mrs. Long.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Mrs. Long will do a preliminary assessment to determine the best starting point for your child's tutoring sessions. As your learner progresses, assessments will be used to indicate growth and determine any areas that need support.Grades Offered
Designed for children with dyslexia or dysgraphia, the Orton-Gillingham approach offers a systematic approach to teaching phonics. If your child has been diagnosed with either condition, this class can be especially beneficial.
Materials will vary, but all students should have a small (3x5 or larger) piece of sandpaper for sensory writing. Mrs. Long will provide any printables, and will share other recommendations as needed to support your learner.
