This one on one course is perfect for children who need extra skills, strategies, and confidence as they navigate unavoidable conflicts in their lives. This session can be as personalized, or general as needed. Parents may also send me additional information they have about their child’s conflict resolution and/or communication style that they believe is important to address for this class.
During this 45 minute, one on one course, your student will complete a conflict resolution style assessment. This assessment is for education purposes only, and teaches students the four different responses/tendencies to respond to conflict, including: accommodating, compromising, competing and avoiding. We will learn about these four different responses to conflict and how they affect the conflict resolution process. Using this information, we will explore skills and techniques to peacefully confront conflict, and popular methods of conflict resolution including negotiation, arbitration and mediation. During this 1:1 personalized coaching session, students will learn:
Effective Communication and
Active Listening skills
Learn about the Stages of Conflict

Setting Boundaries
Conflict Resolution Theories, Strategies, and Techniques

Students will gain confidence and self-efficacy in their ability to use their newly learned skills. Children will be able to use these skills to better resolve disagreements between friends, constant arguing with parents, sibling bickering/rivalry/jealousy, boyfriend/girlfriend disputes, teacher/coach aversion, and resentment, etc. It is recommended that students enroll in 2-4 sessions to take a deeper dive into developing these skill sets. Parental Guidance
While I aim to keep the course lighthearted, educational and fun, whenever conflict resolution is being discussed, it may bring out strong emotions in students. I will always notify a parent if a student is becoming emotional over a topic, and we can work together to find a solution. This course is strictly educational and not therapeutic in any form. Parents may view the conflict styles assessment tool here: https://www.usip.org/sites/default/files/2017-02/Conflict%20Styles%20Assessment_0_0.pdf. This tool is used as an fun, educational guide to learn about the various conflict resolution styles. Parents/Students may opt out of taking the assessment by reaching out the the instructor. The various conflict resolution styles will still be discussed in lieu of an assessment. If parents have any concerns about any of the learning topics or objectives, you are encouraged to reach out to the instructor to discuss.
