Homework
1 hour per week. After 1-on-1 sessions, I will assign homework related to the concepts covered within class. The aim of this is to reinforce the knowledge and get more practice putting together the skills and strategies we reviewed. This type of homework will include an answer key and possibly answer explanations. Student should complete assigned work and check it themselves in an attempt to understand the content on their own but then should come back to sessions with any further questions they may have. This will provide the most efficient use of their time within sessions.Assessment
Teacher will continually assess the student throughout 1-on-1 sessions. This may take the form of a formal, proctored assessment such as a quiz or exam or more informal evaluation throughout sessions. This is not a requirement but may be necessary to identify any gaps in knowledge or areas for improvement, especially when it comes to test prep.Class Experience
Welcome to our 1-on-1 tutoring sessions for Science students in grades 5 - 12. In these 1-on-1 sessions, we offer supplemental science instruction from Earth Science to Chemistry. In this class, students will go over any work or concepts with a skilled tutor who will assess their current knowledge, identify areas for improvement, and provide instruction in order to help students improve their understanding of science concepts. Most often science classes taught include Earth Science, Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry. Some of the most popular topics within these subjects I tutor include: Earth Science: Origins of the universe Gravity Inertia Formation of the solar system Minerals The rock cycle Tides Erosion Plate tectonics Physical Science: Energy and matter Types of energy Heat transfer Electric and magnetic forces States of matter Chemical and physical properties Newton's Laws Biology: Types of organisms Cell structures Photosynthesis Cellular respiration DNA and RNA Ecosystems Taxonomy Punnett Squares Evolution Chemistry: Understanding the differences between elements and compounds Different types of compounds Mixtures Reading the Periodic Table Stoichiometry and other Chemistry math ***Note: Physics and AP subject tutoring is not offered at this time. Personalized Instruction: Is in-class instruction or group instruction not working as well for your student? With one-on-one lessons, students get the full attention of the teacher, the ability to ask all the questions they may have privately, and get to move through content at their pace. Lessons can be structured to help students with whatever material they need to focus on, moving as fast or as slow as need be. Comprehensive Subject Knowledge: Get help from tutors who have a deep understanding of the science concepts. Our tutors can not only teach students the notes and formulas but also show them how it relates to the other concepts they're learning and the real world. Is tutoring only for struggling students? Not at all! Students of all ages and ability levels engage with tutors all the time. Whether you need help brushing up on a few concepts, need to catch up in school, or are working ahead on advanced content and perfecting scores, a tutor can be a great resource in your life.
Learning Goals
Students will gain a deeper understanding of fundamental science concepts and begin working towards learning new content. Students will get caught up with any assignments or requirements they may have and work towards mastery of these concepts.
