Parental Guidance
- Please be certain your learner has access to the instrument DURING class. - Please make sure your leaner knows how to mute/unmute in Zoom so that s/he can immediately try any idea presented in class or ask questions as needed - If your learner is using an electronic keyboard, please be certain that there is sufficient battery power or (preferred) the keyboard's power supply is plugged into the wall. - Please check notes below regarding camera placement - The BEST camera position is at the side of the student, where I have a clear view of keys, hands, and posture. - Some students end up using a front-facing camera position. I OFTEN screen share, and this works best for their families. Because I cannot see the keyboard or hands at all, I am reliant on my ears (which has been working fine). However, I cannot correct technique and support ergonomic playing. I can (and do) model often. - Learning materials (song sheets, theory sheets, and worksheets) will be provided through the Outschool class page as printables. Each student should have ready access to a piano or an electronic musical keyboard. The camera/device should be placed in such a manner as to allow the teacher visual of both the student and both hands.

In the case of an electronic musical keyboard, there should also be a way for the student to show the teacher the button features. A parent may assist younger students with this, when and if needed. An alternative would be to provide the instructor with the make and model of the instrument so that she can try to find an image or map of the instrument's specific features.

Teacher expertise and credentials
When Ms. Sandra's parents brought a piano into the home, she was immediately fascinated and continuously rifling through her brother's and mother's songbooks, trying to figure this "thing" out on her own. Once her parents decided to allow her to try lessons, she passed her brother's progress within six months and hasn't looked back. She began teaching piano lessons over thirty years ago. To this day, she remains fascinated not only by what we can do with the piano keyboard but also by sharing the journey with others who are learning to play this wonderful instrument.
