Class Experience

In this one on one piano class, students are introduced to the fundamental concepts of playing the piano through a combination of discussions, and hands-on activities. The class is designed to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can develop a solid foundation in their piano playing.

The class begins with an introduction to music theory, explaining its purpose and how it provides a framework for understanding and creating music. The teacher emphasizes the importance of music theory in understanding the piano.

Throughout the class, the teacher uses visual aids, such as a musical staff, to explain the basics of pitch and rhythm. Students learn to identify notes on the staff, differentiate between different note durations, and understand the concept of time signatures. The teacher may use examples from popular (child friendly) songs to demonstrate these concepts and make them relatable to the students.

The class also covers the construction of major scales, explaining the pattern of whole steps and half steps. Students learn how to build major scales on the piano, and the teacher provides examples of major scales in different keys. This allows students to develop a practical understanding of scales and key signatures.

Moving on, the class delves into sheet music for the student to begin playing. The overall understanding of basic music theory is essential to understanding how to read sheet music, which is why the teacher will go over all of that information first.

Throughout the class, there are opportunities for students to ask questions, participate in discussions, and engage in hands-on activities.

At the end of each class, the teacher summarizes the main points covered, recaps the important concepts, and encourages students to ask any remaining questions. The overall aim is to create an inclusive and enjoyable learning experience, fostering a strong understanding of music theory and piano playing. The student will always be encouraged to practice what they learned throughout the week if possible.

Note: Since this is a one on one class it is flexible based on how well the student is grasping concepts. The class can easily be flexible and follow the students progress.
