Welcome! In this engaging virtual classroom, students will embark on a mathematical journey tailored to their grade level, covering a wide range of fundamental concepts while fostering a love for learning math. Whether your child is in fourth grade sharpening their foundational skills or in eighth grade preparing for more advanced topics, this class will provide a supportive and interactive environment for mathematical growth. What Will Be Taught? This class will cover a diverse array of topics spanning both elementary and middle school math curriculum. From arithmetic operations, fractions, and decimals to algebraic expressions, geometry, and introductory trigonometry, students will explore concepts that align with their grade level and build upon their existing knowledge. Class Structure: Each session will be structured to balance instruction, practice, and interactive activities. We'll begin with a brief overview of the topic, followed by guided practice exercises to reinforce understanding. Then, we'll delve into hands-on activities, problem-solving tasks, and collaborative discussions to apply the concepts learned in real-world contexts. How Will I Teach? Teacher expertise and credentials
South Carolina Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I am a veteran teacher that specializes in elementary and middle level mathematics. I am also strong in creative writing and have a passion for history. I've always said that the perfect teaching job would allow me to teach math, writing, and history.
I have taught second through eighth grades. I am currently an eighth grade math teacher, so I teach Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. I am a math leader in my school, district, and state. I recently served on a committee of about 30 educators state-wide to rewrite our math standards for the state. I have also served as an adjunct professor and taught pre-service early childhood and elementary educators to enjoy teaching math and as a math coach, coaching teachers to be more efficient math educators. I enjoyed those experiences, but I missed working with students.
I place a strong emphasis on the significance of social interaction and cognitive engagement in the learning process. This means actively encouraging students to collaborate and discuss ideas, while also ensuring that the material is intellectually stimulating. My goal is not only for my students to learn the content I am teaching, but my goal is to refine their critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. I aim to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters both social connection and academic growth.
In my free time, I love to binge watch a good sitcom or have movie marathons. Some of my hobbies include singing and cooking. I like to think that I am pretty good at them both. I have also recently became a plant dad, so I am working really hard to learn how to best take care of my green "babies". This is a testament of how much I love to learn new things.
