Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
I believe that ANYONE can be a strong public speaker, with the right training.

Over my years working as a Teacher, Tutor, Confident Communications Coach, Presenter (TV, Radio, Live, Video, Online), Actress, and Director I have picked up lots of tips, tricks, and techniques that can help ANYONE improve their public speaking skills and confidence ready for any type of public speaking.

In this 8 week course, each week's class will start with a carefully structured warm-up and tongue twister exercise focused on improving our articulation, pronunciation, and clarity of speech (this is needed for native as well as non-native speakers). By the end of this course, learners will have learned 8 different warm-ups which vary in length and depth of focus which they can use in the future.

We will then work on a speech from either 'Monologues for Kids and Tweens', 'Monologues for Kids and Tweens II,' or 'Monologues for Teens', or Monologues for Teens II' by Mike Kimmel. I highly recommend learners purchase their own copy of one of these books as there are lots more speeches that they can use to carry on building their skills after our class, but I can also supply copies of the speech we are using in pdf form if needed. Learners are welcome to choose which book they would like to work from depending on their age (some 12 year olds might prefer Tweens and some might prepare Teens) and any prior knowledge/experience of these books.

As a fully qualified, experienced teacher (BAPA, PGCE), professional actor, and director, who has also worked as many types of presenter and used many of these techniques to build her own confidence and develop her use of voice and non-verbal presentation, I can give extra on the spot tips, and ideas where needed. Developing the class content live in class or as learners' skills and needs develop week to week.

Learners will also get regular feedback with tips they can continue to build on both live in class, and often afterward in notes in the classroom.

'I would like to thank you with an update, previously shy D achieved a place in the semi-finals for his year 6 speech competition! I saw him practicing with hand gestures, voice tone, and pauses that you taught him over his classes last term break. I am so pleased to see him breaking out of his shell and stepping up. Thank you'
