Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
Have you been thinking about improving your learner's public speaking skills and confidence, but not sure how?

I have developed a tried, tested, and repeatedly proven method that has 6 clear areas of public speaking skills. Over this 6 week course we can cover all 6, and the best bit is once learned these can be applied to any form of public speaking from a poem, speech, piece of prose, interview response, competition entry, original speeches, impromptu speeches, and even Shakespeare.

In this class we will start by applying these skills to published speeches written by the presenter, writer, and public speaker Mike Kimmel. You can choose whether we look at 5 different speeches or apply the skills to just one or two (we can even work on a specific speech you would like your learner to work on, for example a class task or competition piece).

Each class will start with a voice warm-up and tongue twister specifically designed to improve learners' articulation, pronunciation, and enunciation (meaning they will walk away from this course with a collection of 6 they can use in the future to carry on their improvements). Also, an explanation for a nonsense word for learners to start to build their impromptu public speaking, verbal expression, formulation of ideas, and articulation of opinions. Before we approach our speech for that week, and apply a key public speaking skill.

I will support and encourage learner's development (and help build their speaking confidence) live in the class, and also often follow up with tips in the classroom.

After class learners will be encouraged to try to create their own version of the speech (this is great practice for future speech writing and creating or public speaking competitions) revising the key skill as they do.

Upon completion of this course, learners can repeat the course again with different speeches (to solidify their learning even more), go onto a weekly 1-on-1 class with more speeches, or swap to looking at famous speeches, or even prose next if they wish.

'I would like to thank you with an update, previously shy D achieved a place in the semi-finals for his year 6 speech competition! I saw him practicing with hand gestures, voice tone, and pauses that you taught him over his classes last term break. I am so pleased to see him breaking out of his shell and stepping up. Thank you'
