Class Experience

Intermediate - Advanced Level
Have you been thinking about improving your learner's public speaking skills and confidence, but not sure how?

Working towards traditional Public Speaking exams is one way to look at doing this, but it often leaves learners only proficient in presenting a certain poem, speech, or piece of prose that they have learned for their exam. They may not fully understand how they achieve this presentation level though, and most importantly may not be able to transfer these skills to other areas of public speaking in the future.

I have developed a tried, tested, and repeatedly proven method that has 6 clear areas of public speaking skills. Over this 6 week course we can cover all 6, and the best bit is once learned these can be applied to any poem, speech, piece of prose, interview response, competition entry or original speeches, impromptu speeches, and even Shakespeare.

In this class we will start by applying these skills to a famous published speech. Learners can choose to study a famous speech originally given by:
Martin Luther King Junior,
Queen Elizabeth I,
Franklin D Roosevelt,
Maya Angelo,
Winston Churchill,
Emmeline Pankhurst,
or Mahatma Gandhi,

Each class will start with a voice warm-up and tongue twister specifically designed to improve learners' articulation, pronunciation, and enunciation (meaning they will walk away from this course with a collection of 6 they can use in the future to carry on their improvements). Also, a few interview mock questions starting to prepare learners for the future. Supporting them with not only WHAT to say but HOW to say it, before we work on our our speech, and apply a key public speaking skill, such as knowing when to use emphasis to the best effect for example.

I will support and encourage learner's development (and help build their speaking confidence) live in the class, and also follow up with tips in the classroom.

Upon completion of this course, learners can repeat with more famous speeches (to solidify their learning even more), go onto a weekly 1-on-1 class with more speeches, or swap to looking at prose next if they wish.
